Huawei is rumored to be working on its first 2-in-1 PC

The two-in-one market is becoming popular. Being able to switch between laptop and tablet functions makes the expenditure on a piece of electronics much more justifiable, as it can be used in a number of ways. Of course this has meant that every man and his dog is getting in to the business of making them, which is why it’s not much of a surprise that a rumor has shown up suggesting that Huawei could enter the market next year.

Of course, anything that hasn’t been officially announced or doesn’t come with some sort of heavy-handed evidence should be taken with a pinch of salt, and that’s exactly what’s happened in this instance. This rumor is from DigiTimes, which is reporting on rumors leaked from the Taiwan-based supply chain for Huawei.

They would be some of the people to know if such a move was taking place, as Huawei would need parts and manufacturing facilities to start to put together any such devices, but with no direct quote and no slides or images, this is very-much unconfirmed at this stage.

However, if we throw that out of the window for now and indulge in some raw speculation, Huawei is thought likely to enter the two-in-one market, potentially targeting territories like the Middle-East and Africa, where it has seen some success with its enterprise facing smartphone sales.

What would be interesting however, is to see how other manufacturers would respond. Although not a major global player of the likes of Dell or Lenovo, Huawei has a massive install base in China and has been making real waves in the traditional hardware maker landscape of various electronics. If it did decide to make a big push into laptop/tablet combo devices, we could see pricing come down from other manufacturers to compensate.

Would you be interested in a Huawei two-in-one if given the chance?
