iSuppli: Dell Barely Edged HP in 2006 Sales

Market research firm iSuppli has weighed in on the battle for the title of number one computer maker, noting that while Dell was the only majo manufacturer to sell fewer computer during the fourth quarter of 2006 compared to the same quarter the previous year, the company had build up enough of a lead to keep rival Hewlett-Packard from claiming the top sales spot. But just barely; for the year, Dell sold 0.3 percent more computers than HP.

According to iSuppli, HP beat Dell in overall sales during both the third and fourth quarters of 2006, but it wasn’t quite enough to overcome the lead Dell established earlier in the year. But HP’s sales numbers are strong, shipping 11.6 million PCs during the fourth quarter of 2006, an increase of 21.1 percent compared to the same quarter in 2005. In comparison, Dell shipped 9.5 million PCs during the last quarter of 2006, which represented an 8.6 percent drop in shipments compared to the same quarter in 2005. If trends continue, HP is likely to unseat Dell as top PC manufacturer during 2007.

Other leading computer manufacturers might be seeing their rankings shift as well. China’s Lenovo managed to hold on to third place during the fourth quarter of 2006, but it’s lead over rival Acer declined to just 348,000 units. During 2006, Acer increased its unit shipments at almost twice the percentage rate of Lenovo, putting Acer in a position to challenge Lenovo for the number three spot during 2007.

eBay Flash Sale: Save on Apple Watch, iPhone XR, and Microsoft Surface Pro 7
apple watch series 3 4 5 best buy discounts 2 smartwatch 2018 720x720

If you're considering upgrading your personal electronics, this month's Memorial Day Sales are an excellent time to make choices and save money. eBay has a flash sale on select smartwatches, smartphones, laptops, and audio equipment. We picked five of the best deals on personal electronics from Apple, Microsoft, Samsung, and Sony.

Shipping is free with the deals below, and the discounts range from 26% to 43%, although quantities are limited, according to the sellers. The deepest cuts are on open box and refurbished devices, but in our experience, neither situation is a cause for concern. The refurbished units are guaranteed to function precisely like new units and are warranted for 90 days. The open box item, a Samsung Galaxy Smartwatch, comes with a full one-year warranty. The greatest risk you'll face with these deals is missing out on the great savings.

Can't wait to see what the Memorial Day sales hold? Desperate to get your mitts on some AirPods or AirPods Pro, or maybe even an iPad 10.2 or MacBook Pro? You're in the right place. All of these devices are on sale right now, the latest in a string of fantastic Apple deals we've seen in recent weeks.
Apple AirPods (2nd Gen) — from $130

What's the difference between the first and second generation of AirPods besides the wireless charging case upgrade? Not much, to be honest. They look exactly the same, although there are some notable improvements underneath the hood, including the H1 chipset, longer talk time, and support for voice-activated Siri. They also remain ridiculously easy to operate and set up for iOS devices, although the lack of waterproofing or workout features is baffling considering the price point (you can take the Galaxy Buds to the gym, and they cost less). Right now, you can get the AirPods 2 with the standard wired charging case for $130 (down from $160) at Verizon and $165 (down from $200) for those with a wireless charging case. Discounts apply upon checkout.
