Carrying around an external battery pack for your laptop can be incredibly helpful if you’re a frequent traveler. This is especially true considering that, depending on where you are, you may go through extended periods without coming across a vacant electrical outlet. Lenmar offers a helping hand in this department with its ChugPlug, a portable power pack for the Macbook Air and 13-inch Macbook Pro.

The ChugPlug plugs into your MacBook’s power adapter, and adds a maximum of four hours of battery life to the 11-inch MacBook Air, and as much as three hours to the 13-inch MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro. However, the ChugPlug is a little on the chunky side, weighing 1.1 pounds. That’s about half of what the current-gen 11-inch MacBook Air weighs (2.38 pounds).

It’s worth noting that the ChugPlug doesn’t offer as much juice as some other external batteries.  For instance, Gbatteries’ BatteryBox claims that it can add a full charge to a 13-inch MacBook Air.

The ChugPlug will begin shipping during the week of April 14, and will run you $159.99. Lenmar is currently taking pre-orders on their website. If we get our mitts around a ChugPlug and a BatteryBox, we’d love to see how these two stack up against one another in real world action.
