Boutique computer maker Maingear has unveiled its mX-L 15 multimedia notebook, putting Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors in a system with a 15.6-inch display and ATI Radeon graphics at prices starting at $999.
The mX-L 15 offers a choice of mobile versions of Intel Core i5 and i7 processors with Turbo Boost technology (that can crank up the clock speed for intensive tasks) and Hyper-Threading for improved multitasking and multimedia capabilities. The unit features an LED-backlist display with a native resolution of either 1,366 by 768 pixels or 1,600 by 900 pixels for supporting high-definition content, driven by ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 graphics. The system also features 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless networking, a two megapixel webcam, gigabit Ethernet an integrated fingerprint reader for secure access, and an eSATA port for high-bandwidth connections to external storage. The mX-L 15 supports up to 8 GB of DDR3-1333 RAM, and comes with an 8× DVD±RW DVD burner. The system can be configured with either a traditional hard drives or a solid state drives, and also features a numeric keypad—something usually reserved for notebooks with 17-inch or larger displays. Also on board: HDMI output, three USB 2.0 ports, S/PDIF audio output, an ExpressCard/34 slot, and a 7-in-1 media card reader.
Prices for the mX-L 15 start at $999; the systems should be available in mid-March.
