What’s that under the Christmas tree? A dirt-cheap HP Pavilion X2, courtesy of Microsoft

Microsoft’s “12 Days of Deals” promotion can only go out with a bang, but what’s more bang-tastic than a low-cost Asus Transformer Book Flip convertible? An even cheaper 2-in-1 PC from HP, one that debuted on store shelves just a couple of months back.

This one’s called the Pavilion X2, stands out from the crowd with an impressively compact form factor, and regularly costs $329. Well, Amazon sells it for $270, in all fairness, but that’s probably part of a limited-time sale.

Microsoft’s $199 price will go online tomorrow, December 18, starting at 8 AM EST. Inventory is likely restricted, so urgency isn’t advised, it’s mandatory. If you’re feeling up to the task, you can also try camping out in front of a brick and mortar store tonight, as the first 50 buyers to visit a standard Microsoft physical location will get an extra $50 off at the crack of dawn.

So what is the HP Pavilion X2? It’s a 2-in-1 with a 0.38-inch profile, 2-pound weight (keyboard included), Intel Bay Trail CPU, Windows 8.1, 11-hour battery and a free one-year Office 365 subscription. Getting all that for $150 may feel like a dream come true for bargain hunters nationwide, but is it worth standing in line for?

All in all, it’s probably wiser to stick to the comfort of your couch, grab the HP Pavilion X2 online at the lucrative albeit slightly less exciting price of $200, and browse the rest of Microsoft’s Christmas celebratory deals for extra savings.

Other deals include the Surface Pro 3, offered with a complimentary $100 coupon and protective sleeve, the Acer Aspire E11 at $149 and the Asus X551 at $199. Both the 11.6 and 15.6-inch notebooks are $50 off, and like all computers sold directly by Microsoft, they’re “Signature Editions” with free antivirus software, no junk ware or and zero trialware.

More discounts are one click away for the Acer Aspire Switch 10 purchases ($229 now, down from $349), Aspire R13 ($799 after a $100 trim), and Dell Inspiron 13 ($699, also slashed by $100). And there’s still a Day 12 steal to be revealed. What could Redmond be prepping for the grand finale?
