Most of us can’t afford the most top-end of top-end hardware, but some people can. That’s why it’s worth pointing out that the new king of professional monitors has just been launched. The NEC PA322UHD-BK-2 is a 31.5-inch IGZO display running at a 4K (3,840 x 2,160) resolution, and it comes with a variety of high-end features.
But it will set you back $3,000.
The display can handle 99.2 percent of the Adobe RGB color spectrum, supports 10-bit color and has a maximum brightness of 350cd/m2, with a contrast ratio of 1,000:1. While there are no doubt some displays that may top those specs, when combined with the strong connection options, it’s quite an impressive set-up.
There are two DisplayPort 1.2 connectors, a single HDMI 2.0 input, four more traditional HDMI 1.4 ports, and a pair of DVI-D inputs too. There is even support for Open Pluggable Specification expansion cards (as per TechReport) which let you add other connectors with a more broadcast focus.
One of the more fancy features this display has though, is its ability to utilize NEC’s DisplaySync Pro to handle the displays from two separate systems. You can even control both of them with just one mouse and keyboard.
Refresh rates vary all the way up to 120Hz, though without variable refresh rates, this is not going to be the strongest monitor for gaming. That goes double for the 10ms response time, which will likely see a bit of ghosting on faster-paced games — something that is certainly no good if you are going for accuracy.
But gaming is not what this display is designed for. With its professional features and beautiful display panel, it should offer a great platform for photo editors or 3D modellers.
Available now for that eye-watering $3,000 price tag, the PA322UHD-BK-2 also comes with a four-year warranty.
