PC sales might be at an all-time low right now, but that hasn’t stopped manufacturers like Samsung from introducing new laptops or refreshing its existing products. In fact, the Korean company just updated its 13.3-inch Series 9 Ultrabook with a full 1080p HD display.
Although this Ultrabook will run Windows 8, its 13.3-inch display is not a touchscreen so you won’t be able to tap the 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution matte screen with your grubby fingers. It should also look about twice as bright as other laptop screens, thanks to Samsung’s SuperBright technology that makes this Series 9 display a vibrant 300 nits.
For an Ultrabook to command $1,400 in this market, it has to be an exceptional value to consumers, which means offering up close to top-of-the-line parts so that users can get the most out of their computer. With a third-generation, 2.0GHz Intel Core i7-3537U processor, 4GB RAM, 128GB solid-state drive, and Intel HD Graphics 4000, the laptop is hardly a gaming powerhouse. That said, it should be plenty powerful for business users and anyone who needs to travel with their Ultrabook, especially with the battery that can last just under 6 hours, according to Samsung.
Where the Series 9 Ultrabooks really shine against competitors is in its design. Samsung’s Ultrabooks tend to be super slim yet feel very sturdy in-hand, and this model is no exception. Weighing just 2.5 pounds and measuring 0.5 inches thin, its has an aluminum “single shell body” that has been “sand-blasted” to fight fingerprints. To fit all the components into its svelte chasis, Samsung had to customize key parts like its keyboard, battery, cable, and fans, which is likely another reason for the Series 9 Ultrabooks’ high price tags when compared to other Windows 8 Ultrabooks.
Unlike the prematurely leaked Ativ Book 6 that appeared on Samsung’s website yesterday, this premium Ultrabook is available for purchase now: you can order it direct from Samsung’s website or find it at your local retailer.
