Schultzeworks PhilcoPC Concept Makes Retro Cool Again

California design firm Schultzeworks as announced that it landed a top-three placement in a design competition sponsored by V-Ray, which makes rendering tools for the Rhino 3D modeling software. Normally, that’s not the kind of thing that attracts a great deal of press attention…but just take a look at the renderings that won the prize. Schultzeworks PhilcoPC is based on the design of the famous 1954 Philco Predicta televisions, with some bright orange, old-school keycaps, and a bit of steampunky sensibility thrown in for good measure.

“I felt so strongly that, with few exceptions, most computers are engineered eyesores. So it was very cool to receive so much positive feedback,” said lead designer Dave Schultze, in a statement.

We have to emphasize that the PhilcoPC does not exist, and its just a design prototype…although Schultzeworks is shopping the idea around to manufacturers—you can even check out a video of the hypothetical device. Schultzeworks might just have a shot at getting the PhilcoPC made: Schultzeworks as had a hand in designing housewares and consumer electronics for the likes of Target, LG, and Microsoft.

Although we’re not sure we’d want to make our living typing at that particular keyboard, we have to admit the PhilcoPC tugs at certain heartstrings. We wish Schultzeworks the best of luck.

Hyte made me fall in love with my gaming PC all over again
A PC built with the Hyte Nexus Link ecosystem.

I've never seen anything quite like Hyte's new Nexus Link ecosystem. Corsair has its iCue Link system, and Lian Li has its magnetic Uni system, and all three companies are now offering ways to tie together your PC cooling and lighting devoid of extraneous cables. But Hyte's marriage of hardware, software, and accessories is in a league of its own -- and it transformed my PC build completely.

I've been using some of the foundational components of the ecosystem for about a week, retailoring a build inside of Hyte's own Y40 PC case to see how the system works. It doesn't seem too exciting at first -- Hyte released an all-in-one (AIO) liquid cooler, some fans, and a few RGB strips, who cares? But as I engaged more with the Nexus Link ecosystem, I only became more impressed.
It all starts with the cooler

The war between PC and console is about to heat up again
Intel NUC 12 Enthusiast sitting on a desk.

There's no question that consoles are increasingly becoming more like PCs, but thanks to Nvidia, it appears that the opposite may be taking place too.

According to a new report by Wccftech, Nvidia is working with its partners to create a new ecosystem for gaming on small form factor (SFF) PCs. When it comes to Nvidia, many of us think of some of the best graphics cards that are as powerful as they are massive, like the RTX 4090. However, Nvidia is planning to flip that narrative and set its sights on an unexpected target.
