Schultzeworks PhilcoPC Concept Makes Retro Cool Again

California design firm Schultzeworks as announced that it landed a top-three placement in a design competition sponsored by V-Ray, which makes rendering tools for the Rhino 3D modeling software. Normally, that’s not the kind of thing that attracts a great deal of press attention…but just take a look at the renderings that won the prize. Schultzeworks PhilcoPC is based on the design of the famous 1954 Philco Predicta televisions, with some bright orange, old-school keycaps, and a bit of steampunky sensibility thrown in for good measure.

“I felt so strongly that, with few exceptions, most computers are engineered eyesores. So it was very cool to receive so much positive feedback,” said lead designer Dave Schultze, in a statement.

We have to emphasize that the PhilcoPC does not exist, and its just a design prototype…although Schultzeworks is shopping the idea around to manufacturers—you can even check out a video of the hypothetical device. Schultzeworks might just have a shot at getting the PhilcoPC made: Schultzeworks as had a hand in designing housewares and consumer electronics for the likes of Target, LG, and Microsoft.
