Following months of speculation as to the future of the franchise, last week saw Treyarch officially unveil Call of Duty: Black Ops III with an intriguing reveal trailer. Now, the developers have released the minimum system specifications for the title’s PC release.

The timing of this information being might raise a few eyebrows — it’s a little early, considering the game isn’t scheduled to release until November. However, the reasoning behind the decision to share the required specifications now is likely linked to plans for a multi-player beta ahead of the title’s release.

Here’s what you’ll need to play:

  • OS: Windows 7 64-Bit / Windows 8 64-Bit / Windows 8.1 64-Bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i3-530 @ 2.93 GHz / AMD Phenom™ II X4 810 @ 2.60 GHz
  • Memory: 6 GB RAM
  • Sound Card: DirectX Compatible
  • Video Card: GeForce GTX 470 @ 1GB / Radeon HD 6970 @ 1GB
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection

This information isn’t all too surprising, as for the most part the specifications are in line with those required for the last installment in the series, Advanced Warfare. Since that title was the franchise’s real debut on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One after the cross-platform Ghosts, it follows that Black Ops III wouldn’t offer as great an improvement under the hood.

Compared to this year’s releases, the new Call of Duty stands out for its hefty memory requirements. Mortal Kombat X and Grand Theft Auto V are similar in terms of being high-profile console titles ported to the PC, but they only require 3GB and 4GB respectively, compared to the 6GB needed for Black Ops III.

Black Ops III is the first Treyarch-developed Call of Duty title since Black Ops II released in 2012. It’s expected to contain the series’ biggest Zombies mode to date, as well as some of the exo-suit gameplay mechanics introduced in last year’s Advanced Warfare.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III is expected to release on November 6, 2015.

Call of Duty is one of the most successful video game franchises of all time. The original Call of Duty set a new standard for first-person shooters, the series' online multiplayer work has been a must-play for gamers for nearly two decades, and Warzone has been one of the top battle royale experiences of late.

The series has covered a lot of warfare, from World War II to futuristic fictional wars in 2187, but never in any set order. Players have been bounced around from era to era with each annual COD release and even revisited the same conflicts multiple times from different perspectives through direct sequels and remakes.
