Sony Offers Vaio SSD Drive Option in Japan

Sony Offers Vaio SSD Drive Option in Japan

Sony has taken another step into the solid state drive market, announcing plans to offer a flash-based drive option in its Vaio Type-G (Japanese) lightweight business notebooks. However, for now the SSD drives will only be available via Sony Japan’s built-to-order service, and the company doesn’t have any plans to offer the drives to overseas customers. The SSD option will also be expensive, with customers forking over a nearly $550 premium (¥65,000) to use a 32 GB flash drive rather than a traditional 40 GB hard drive.

The Vaio Type-Gs were introduced last year, and sport a 12.1 inch screen, a 1.2 GHz Celeron processor, and a total weight of just 898 grams (that’s under two pounds). The solid state drive actually lightens the Type-G Vaio still further, shaving an additional 39 grams off is weight.

The Vaio Type-G is the first notebook computer from Sony with a solid state drive, although the company also put a 16 GB solid state drive into tits Vaio UX90 ultraportable, which it introduced nine months ago.

The best NVMe SSD in 2022
A woman holding the Samsung 870 Pro NVMe PCIe SSD in her hands.

Whether you are building a new gaming rig or planning to upgrade the existing storage on your PC, it makes sense to invest in one of the best solid-state drives (SSD) on the market. But if you are looking for the best performing storage with the fastest read and write speeds then, NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) SSDs are the way to go. Not only do they offer up to 12 times faster speeds compared to SATA drives, but they are also more reliable and offer better endurance. In fact, the latest-gen gaming consoles from Microsoft and Sony also make use of NVMe SSDs, although it is the PlayStation 5 that offers a user-accessible M.2 slot to accommodate an additional NVMe SSD.

If you are planning to buy a new NVMe SSD then there are numerous options to choose from. To make things simpler, we have listed some of the best NVMe SSDs to buy in 2022. Our top recommendations include the WD Black SN850, the Seagate Firecuda 530, and the Samsung 980 Pro all of which are competitive in terms of price and performance.

This Windows 11 update could seriously boost your SSD
microsoft announces surface pro 7 plus ssd

Ever since it launched, Windows 11 has suffered from an issue where solid-state drives might not perform to the fullest possible speeds. A Windows Update in December slightly alleviated those problems for some people, but the latest preview update for Windows 11 could possibly help address it once and for all.

According to the changelog for the preview update, named KB5008353, Microsoft finally addressed the performance regression issue that occurs when you enable the update sequence number (USN) journal. This is typically where Windows stores the filesystem changes made to your disk drive. And, per posts on social media, was the culprit of poor SSD speeds from the beginning.
