Gone are the days when an iPod or iPhone case was…well, just something to keep scratches off the screens. The accessory industry surrounding the ubiquitous Apple gizmos has exploded so consumers have more choices—and more bad choices—than ever. Adding to the cacophony—and hopefully elevating the dialog a little—Speckhas just announced new “fitted” hard shell cases for the iPhone 3G, iPod nano 4G, and iPod touch 2G. The company—which also makes notebook cases, bags, and cases for other devices—hopes the new options open up a whole new world of accessorizing, featuring a series of playful, female-friendly colors, as well, as a more refined series of cases featuring refined fabrics custom-tailered over a hardshell case.
“For the first time with Fitted, we are designing with the young female iPod owner in mind. The colors are young at heart and the styles are youthful,” said Speck CEO Irene Baran, in a statement. “From the fun pattern of BubbleSpotDot Aqua to the evening wear-friendly Pinstripe, our Fitted cases will appeal to tweens and teens alike.”
The cases all provide full access to screens, ports, plugs, and controls. New iPod nano cases include BubbleSpotDot Aqua, and CheeryPlum Purple, while the iPod touch gets Lovely Roger White & Pink, Lovely Roger Black & Grey, and CheeryPlum Purple—all the cases feature durable vinyl over a hardshell case. The fabric cases—dubbed the “Haberdashery Collection”—for the iPhone 3G are available in Black Pinstripe, Tan Houndstooth, and Black and White Plaid.
The cases should all be available in April at outlets like Target, Toys R Us, and (of course) Speck’s own Web site for $29.99.
