Toshiba America Consumer Products announced today in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission that it is recalling about 142,000 AC adapters sold with portable DVD players in the United States from January 2005 through April 2006. The power adapters can fail and overheat, creating a risk or property damage and/or injury; Toshiba says it has had two reports of minor damage to the portable DVD players, but no injuries have been reported.
The recall applies to adapters sold with the Toshiba SD-P1600 portable DVD player. The units display the Toshiba brand name and say “ADPV16” on the side of the adapter. Toshiba recommends customers stop using the adapters immediately and contact Toshiba for a replacement: Toshiba can be reached via phone at 877/290-6064 between 9 A.M. and 7 P.M. U.S. Central time Monday through Friday
The potentially faulty adapters were manufactured for Toshiba in China.
