Black Friday is back with this fantastic deal on a 65-inch LG 4K TV

If you missed your chance to take home a 4K TV on the cheap on Black Friday 2019, you’re in luck: Walmart has revived one of the best deals we saw on the shopping bonanza, knocking $170 off the massive 65-inch LG UM6950. This sees it in the discount bin for just $480 — or as little as $47 per month through the retailer’s flexible 12-month financing scheme.

Frankly, the LG UM6950 has it all, offering access to everything you could ever need right out of the box. There’s an enormous 65-inch screen (4K Ultra HD, no less) on the front; multi-format HDR, which can be called upon to draw more detail from supported content; and LG’s intuitive webOS smart software for instant streaming through the likes of Disney+ and Netflix.

The television can even be hooked up to an Amazon Echo or Google Home for hands-free navigation. Decide to do this and you will be able to mumble all sorts of voice commands its way, such as telling it to turn on and off, switch to a different input method, and even track down and start playing specific content — all without having to reach for the remote control.

Let’s not forget this is a 4K TV, so it’s armed with the one feature that all reputable 4K TVs have: A 4K Upscale Engine. This is used to transform standard HD and Full HD content into a higher 4K Ultra HD resolution. You don’t have to do anything to activate it, either — the process takes place in the background, with the LG UM6950 activating it as and when required.

So all in all, the 65-inch LG UM6950 is a television aimed at the average viewer looking for a portal into the streaming-fueled future without all of the set-top boxes and streaming sticks that come with it, and with support for all the leading services, it will cater to the whole family. Not to mention the fact it’s large enough to sit at the center of any home entertainment setup.

Still not sure? Here’s what a customer, who also bought it on sale, had to say:

Great quality and awesome picture too! I was a bit wary because of the price but it blew me away. I love the Smart TV because it’s so simple to get to Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, etc. Just push one button and you’re there. Definitely would purchase again.

If you’re after something a bit different, there are several other 4K TV deals available now, including a 43-inch LG UM6950DUB for $350, a 50-inch Samsung NU6900 for $300, a 65-inch Samsung NU6900 for $480, a curved 65-inch Samsung RU7300 for $620, a 55-inch Sony X800G for $700, a 70-inch Vizio V-Series for $700, and a 65-inch Samsung Q60R QLED for $1,000.

Hisense’s answer to Samsung’s The Frame TV starts at $999
Hisense Canvas mini-LED TV.

During CES, Hisense spent much of its time talking about its massive (and massively bright) mini-LED TVs for 2024. However, it also teased us with its CanvasTV, a model that rivals Samsung's very popular The Frame TV, which lets users display hi-resolution art whenever the TV isn't being used for watching movie or TV content.

I say "teased" because other than a promotional image, we were told almost nothing about the CanvasTV. We still only have the one image (above), but at least there's now more to the CanvasTV story ...

Hisense’s achingly bright U9N ULED TV is a UX for the masses
Hisense U9N ULED 4K TV.

In late 2023, just ahead of CES 2024, Hisense gave us a taste of just how far its engineers had been able to push the TV brightness envelope in the form of the limited-edition, 85-inch UX TV. With 3,500 nits of peak brightness, it was one of the brightest TVs we'd ever reviewed. And while Hisense's UX series remains the company's flagship (with massive 98- and 110-inch models coming later this year), some of the UX's features have trickled down to the new U9N ULED, a 4K TV that Hisense claims will produce an even brighter 5,000 peak nits.

The U9N ULED will come in 75- and 85-inch models, priced at $3,000 and $4,000, respectively. They're expected to be available from BestBuy.com this summer.

What we want to see from the next Apple TV 4K

One thing not on this list: A dust-resistant Apple TV 4K. Phil Nickinson / Digital Trends

Now that we’ve gotten the whole “Apple TV 4K with a camera” thing out of our system, it’s time to take a more serious look at what we still consider to be the best streaming hardware you can buy. More specifically, this article is about what we’d like to see added to the diminutive box.
