Amazon cuts the price on Ring Alarm home security system for Labor Day

Smart homes add convenience to everyday living and manage entertainment systems, but security is the most frequent motivation when people configure smart homes. Amazon cut prices on the Ring Alarm Home Security Systems eight-piece kit for the lead up to Labor Day sales. To sweeten the deal, Amazon also includes a free third-generation Echo Dot smart speaker in addition to a hefty discount.

The Ring Alarm 8-Piece Kit is the

best home alarm system start-up configuration

for most homes. You can always add more components once you’ve installed the initial system. The eight components in the kit include a base station that connects the whole system to your home Wi-Fi network, a keypad to arm and disarm the system from inside your home. The system includes a range extender so the base station signal will reach all installed components. There are also two motion detectors and three contact sensors to protect windows or doors in the kit.

The base station, keypad, and range extender each require AC power so they’ll need to be installed near an outlet. The base station has a rechargeable 24-hour backup battery, and the keypad has an internal rechargeable battery that lasts up to 10 months per charge. The range extender needs an outlet but does not include battery backup. The motion detectors and contact sensors each include a 3-volt lithium battery with estimated three-year battery life.

The base station contains a 104-decibel alarm supports a variety of connections including Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Z-Wave, and Zigbee, plus Bluetooth for setup. If you subscribe to the Ring Protect Plus professional monitoring plan, the base station will also have a cellular backup for monitoring service contact if the power goes out.

Professional 24/7 monitoring is not required to use the Ring Alarm system to protect your home. However, if you want a professionally monitored system plus cellular backup service and unlimited video recording, the charge is $10 with no long-term contract or cancellation fee.

You can manage the Ring Alarm system with the Ring app and set the system to send alerts to your smartphone when the motion detectors or contact sensors are activated. The Ring Alarm system also works with Alexa to arm, disarm, or check the status of the Alarm from any Alexa device in your home. The Alexa Guard skill works with the Ring Alarm system. Alexa will send an alert to your smartphone if Alexa detects the sound of a smoke alarm, carbon monoxide alarm, or glass breaking when you’re out of the house.

Once you have installed and configured the Ring Alarm, you can add other components as needed. In addition to contact sensors and motion detectors, Ring also has compatible smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, water, and low-temperature alarms. Also, the Ring Alarm system can work in conjunction with Ring security cameras, video doorbells, and smart lights.

Normally priced at $239, the Ring Alarm eight-piece system is $189 during this sale, plus it includes an Echo Dot smart speaker at no extra charge. If you want to set up your smart home with an Alexa-compatible security system that also supports Ring’s full suite of security lights, cameras, and more, this is a great opportunity to take advantage of a good price on a well-equipped starter system.

Today's Best Mesh Wi-Fi Prime Day Deal
netgear orbi family expands rbk30 rbk40

Amazon now has a sequel to its Prime Day event, which was held in July this year, in the form of its Prime Early Access Sale. This event, running on October 11 and 12, sees deals across the Amazon store on everything from electronics to home goods, and it's the perfect chance to pick up some extras to make your home tech-ready for the winter. One upgrade that can really improve your quality of life, especially if you work from home or have a larger house, is setting up a mesh network. If you're fed up with your Wi-Fi dropping out or having dead spots in your home, then a mesh network system can help. And now you can score a great deal on the Netgear Orbi Mesh Wi-Fi System, which is less than half price at $99, down from $200.

Why you should buy the Netgear Orbi Mesh Wi-Fi System
If you've been browsing mesh router reviews and best-ofs, then you're probably familiar with the RBK13's older sibling, the Netgear Orbi RBK50, especially given its striking design. Of course, the Orbi RBK50 is pretty expensive, which is why Netgear released the Orbi RBK13, a much more affordable version of the home mesh system that removes some features in exchange for the lower price. The main difference is that the RBK50 is tri-band while the RBK13 is dual-band, a 2.4GHz one and a 5GHz band with a combined theoretical maximum of 1.2Gbps speed. It also means that the dedicated backchannel has been removed, and while that may affect performance slightly, you probably won't notice the difference unless your internet speeds are pushing past 300Mbps, which most folks aren't, so this is a great mesh Wi-Fi Prime Day deal if you fit the bill.
