It has been a big week for Marvel on the interwebs. To the delight of geeks everywhere, yesterday saw the release of the first glimpse of Andrew Garfield in his new Spidey suit. Details were scarce, and by scarce, there were absolutely none, but it still was a cool look at the superhero icon in his costume.
Also released yesterday was a glimpse at Chris Evans in the Captain America costume that he will be wearing to fight the dirty Ratzis, as well as the Hydra organization headed by the Red Skull. The original images were fairly low quality, but today a new, higher quality version of the same image was released. The pictures are part of an upcoming article in the print edition of Entertainment Weekly, while this photo comes courtesy of Comingsoon.net.
In the picture above, Chris Evans is standing in front of two Hydra soldiers, undoubtedly about to serve them some good ol’ American justice. Beyond that, there isn’t much more to say. The Captain America costume is possibly the most difficult of all superhero costumes to recreate in a live action movie without it coming off as…well, stupid, for lack of a better word, but the filmmakers seem to have found a solid formula that shows some realism while still honoring the character.
Still no images of Hugo Weaving in full Red Skull makeup (or full CGI as the case might be), although a few concept art drawings have been released of the Red Skull holding the cosmic cube—check them out below.
Directed by Joe Johnston, Captain America: The First Avenger hits theaters in 3D on July 22, 2011.
What say you, readers. Do you like the look at the costume?
