A new Brink trailer wants you ready and able

To quote TS Eliot, “This is the way the world ends, not with a bang, but a massive explosion caused by a sticky grenade thrown at close range”. Granted, that quote might be a word or two off, but when the end of the world comes, having your friends and family close by is important, but having a big gun even closer is more important.

In Bethesda’s upcoming apocalyptic first person shooter, Brink, you take the side of rebels fighting for the last remaining resources on Earth against the forces of the Ark, the last city on the planet—or you fight to defend the city from those same rebels. It is all about choice, something that is heavily emphasized in the video below.

Choose your look, and choose your abilities in both the single player campaign and the online multiplayer. If you want to have technical abilities, you can use them to hack equipment to your advantage. If you prefer a more “Leroy Jenkins” approach, grab your guns and have at it.

3 things I want in Fallout 5 after watching Amazon’s Fallout series

Fallout has been the watercooler TV show this month, an impressive feat for a video game adaptation. Although Bethesda doesn't have any new Fallout games to release alongside it, the Amazon Prime series has reinvigorated interest in Fallout, with all its titles seeing notable player count increases. For now, we’ll have to be content with a Fallout 4 current-gen upgrade, but I’ll admit that my mind is drifting to thinking about Fallout 5.

Bethesda’s Todd Howard has teased that Fallout 5 will be the next project Bethesda Game Studios works on after Elder Scrolls 6. While that likely means its release is at least a decade away unless Bethesda fast-tracks it, I still find it fun to theorize about where a true single-player Fallout 5 could go next. These three particular things are what I want to see the most.

The Fallout games, at least since Fallout 3, have been absolutely massive games in both scale and popularity. The post-nuclear-war setting is rife with interesting stories to experience and monsters to kill. Fallout 4 was the last single-player entry in the series before Fallout 76 took the game into a persistent multiplayer experience. A large appeal of these games is how you are able to actually role-play and immerse yourself in the game world, which isn't so easy with other players jumping around in their underwear. Thanks to mods, it has never been a better time to revisit the last "pure" Fallout game.

If you’re looking for a great new Switch game, you’ll dig Pepper Grinder

Look, it’s been a busy time for video game enthusiasts. Rather than easing out of a busy holiday season, the first three months of 2024 have been filled with enormous, high-profile RPGs that can eat up an upwards of 60 hours each. I’m tired. You’re tired. Don’t you just want to play something short and sweet at this point?

If the answer to that question is “yes,” then you’re in luck. Pepper Grinder, the latest release from publisher Devolver Digital, is out today and it's the perfect change of pace for anyone exhausted from playing long RPGs for months. And it helps that it’s a fun little platformer with a unique hook, too. Actually, “hook” isn’t exactly the right word here. I should say “drill.”
