Among Us is heading to consoles and Xbox Game Pass this December

Among Us, the mafia-style 2018 title that exploded over the course of the last year is finally heading to consoles this December. The announcement comes after word that the game would be coming to PlayStation and Xbox consoles in physical collector’s edition releases. However, starting on December 14, anyone with a PS4, PS5, Xbox One, or Xbox Series X|S will be able to purchase the game digitally. As an extra bonus, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will also be able to access the massively popular title for free on the same day.

Of course, none of this matters to Nintendo Switch owners, who have had access to Among Us since it was released on the console as a surprise last December.

Players will be able to purchase Among Us on their respective console’s digital storefront for its usual price of just $5. Since gaining popularity, the game has been constantly supported and updated by developer Innersloth. The game’s road map from this summer includes a new hide-and-seek mode, as well as more new maps for players to complete tasks and stealthily slaughter each other on.

If Among Us coming to Xbox Game Pass sounds familiar, that’s because it has, although not in the same capacity. In December 2020, the game was added to Xbox Game Pass for PC specifically. As of December 14, the game will be available on Xbox Game Pass for consoles as well. Today’s announcement means that by the end of this year, Among Us will be available on every major gaming platform available.

Activision Blizzard, which is now owned by Microsoft, has just confirmed that the next Call of Duty game is titled Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Historically, Microsoft has added all its first-party games from Xbox Game Studios and Bethesda to Game Pass the day they launched. That applies to big AAA releases like Starfield, as well as more experimental titles like 2022's Pentiment and Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, which came out this week. Microsoft's public messaging thus far has teased that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will come to the Xbox Game Pass. That said, Microsoft has not officially confirmed it, so there have been conflicting reports on this actually being the case.

As the weekend approaches, you're probably happy that you'll soon have more time to check out some video games. And if you're an Xbox Game Pass subscriber and aren't sure what to play, you have a lot to choose from. That's where I come in. I've looked through the Xbox Game Pass lineup and found three games that I think all kinds of players can have a good time with this weekend.

The first game reimagined what Assassin's Creed could be and is worth a revisit following the announcement of Assassin's Creed Shadows. Next up, we have a standout indie from 2023 that's all about deciphering different languages and exploring how people communicate on an intrinsic level. Finally, there's an underrated magical first-person shooter from EA that just came to the subscription service this week and is worth a look.

3 Xbox Game Pass titles you should play this weekend (May 10-12)

This may feel like an odd weekend to play Xbox Game Pass because it has been such a devastating week for Xbox. It shuttered four studios that fell under Bethesda's umbrella, with Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks being the most notable closures. Although it can be tough to enjoy playing games during a time when the game industry is so clearly hurting, it also offers us an opportunity to look back at what these developers created and appreciate hard work. That's how I chose the three titles I'm spotlighting today.

First is the last game from Tango Gameworks, a critically acclaimed rhythm-action game that had the potential to be a new franchise for Microsoft had it not shut the studio down. Then there's a Tango Gameworks title that's more in line with the studio's horror roots and shows just how varied the studio's game output could be. While Arkane Austin's reputation has been sullied by Redfall, the last entry on this list is a much better game from the company. It's a sci-fi immersive sim that played right into the studio's greatest strengths before it chased the multiplayer game trend.
