The ‘Assassin’s Creed’ movie has an official release date

Ubisoft has confirmed that the Assassin’s Creed movie has a release date. Ubisoft has confirmed to us that the film will hit theaters on May 22, 2015.

The film will star Michael Fassbender, who is also producing, and is being distributed by New Regency and Fox. Earlier this year Michael Lesslie was revealed to be working on a screenplay as well. No director has been announced, but that may change soon now that the movie has a potential release date. Of course, that release date can still change. May 22, 2015 would be the start of Memorial Day weekend, and Disney is said to be eyeing that date for the release of Star Wars: Episode VII. If that becomes official, expect Assassin’s Creed – and any other films with a lick of sense – to abandon that date.

Regardless of the actual day it is released, it looks like 2015 is going to be a massive year for blockbuster films. In addition to Assassin’s Creed and Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean 5, The Avengers 2, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, and Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 are all planned for 2015, and both the Justice League and Fantastic Four franchises are either confirmed for 2015, or rumored to be coming out that year.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage comes to iPhones and iPads this June

Ubisoft and Apple have confirmed that the iOS-native version of Assassin's Creed Mirage will launch on June 6.

We first learned that the latest Assassin's Creed would be making the jump from console to mobile alongside titles like Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 4's remake, and Death Stranding: Director's Cut last year. Apple is now able to release quality ports of console games on iOS thanks to the new M1 chip in the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad Air, and iPad Pro.

Video game adaptations are on a hot streak. Films like The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 were massive box office hits, while series like The Last Of Us and Halo have made for stellar TV shows.

While there have been some great video game movies, some have failed to capture the true spirit of a game on film. Luckily, more effort and resources are being poured into new adaptations given the success of the projects mentioned above — we're starting to see more and more video game films in the works and the overall quality appears to have hit a massive spike in recent years. With so many great video game franchises, every gamer believes their favorite game should be the next one to get a film.
