During Sony’s May 2024 State of Play presentation, Sony revealed a new Astro Bot game — simply titled Astro Bot. It’s the third game in the platformer series, and it’s due out for PlayStation 5 on September 6.

The game’s reveal trailer shows our hero Astro waking up in a desert by a fox-shaped robot. He then flies off on a ship shaped like a DualSense controller. The trailer shows Astro visiting several diverse biomes, including arctic areas, beaches, and even high up in the clouds. Several PlayStation cameos are in the trailer as well, including Parappa the Rappa, Kratos from God of War Ragnarok, and Aloy from Horizon Forbidden West.

There are six galaxies to explore and over 80 levels for Astro to search for his scattered crew in. Astro has access to over 15 new abilities that offer unique playstyles. One of them is shown off in the trailer, called Barkster, which Astro wears like a backpack. Barkster lets Astro air-dash and smash through enemies, metal, and glass. The game will also make use of the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

The first game in the series, Astro Bot Rescue Mission, was released in 2018 for PS4 and PS VR. The second entry, called Astro’s Playroom, was released in 2020 and comes pre-installed with every PS5 console.

The series is developed by Team Asobi, which is based in Japan. Back in 2022, the studio revealed that its next project would be a full-blown commercial title and its “biggest to date.” It’s unclear whether Team Asobi was referring to the new Astro Bot game, but this one certainly looks much bigger in scope than the previous two entries.

PlayStation State of Play returns this week, will feature 14 PS5 games
Three colorful PS5s float together in a line.

PlayStation will kick off the summer of digital video game reveal streams this week with a State of Play broadcast. The stream will take place at 3 p.m. PT on Thursday, May 30.

State of Play is one of Sony's primary livestream presentation formats. It tends to be slightly shorter than the company's flagship stream, the PlayStation Showcase. This State of Play is a significant one, though, as Sony's slate of first-party games for 2024 is entirely unknown at this stage. This stream should shed some light on what's coming later this year.

PS5 Pro: news, rumored release date, price, and specs
A PS5 standing on a table, with purple lights around it.

Rumors are running rampant about a supposed PlayStation 5 Pro, or PS5 Pro for short. Just like we got a mid-generation upgrade with the PS4 Pro  during the last console cycle, many people are expecting PlayStation to release an incrementally more powerful machine to bridge the gap between the launch unit and an eventual PlayStation 6. Leaks have been coming out from some fairly credible sources, with a lot of juicy and very specific details about what a hypothetical PS5 Pro could look like. As credible as these sources may be, we do still need to take everything we see with some skepticism until Sony officially confirms that this system even exists. Until then, here are all the rumors out there regarding the PS5 Pro.
Rumored release window

A constant release window that all leaks have pointed to is sometime in Fall of 2024. That's right around the corner, probably in the September through November range, meaning we should be getting an official announcement on the console if that is indeed the plan. It appears that PS5 Pro dev kits are now in the hands of more developers, who have been asked that PS5 Pro-enhanced games be submitted for certification in August. These developments point toward a 2024 release.
