The Amazing Spider-Man 2 director Marc Webb appears to have inadvertently revealed the character B.J. Novak (The Office, Inglorious Basterds) plays in the upcoming film. Note that this qualifies for a SPOILER ALERT, so proceed with caution. In a tweet captured by ComingSoon, Webb confirmed that Novak is playing future Spider-Man villain, Alistair Smythe.

The tweet was more a shout out to Novak than an intentional reveal. Up to this point, Novak’s role has been kept quiet. The character of Spencer Smythe – Alistair’s father – has been teased, but was also unconfirmed.

bj-novakFor those keep track, that would bring the number of known comic book Spider-Man villains appearing in the film to five, possibly six.

In the comics, Spencer Smythe was a robotics genius that created a line of robots designed to detect and hunt spiders. Daily Bugle publisher J. Jonah Jameson then hired Smythe to construct offensive robots in order to capture Spidey. After an epic failure, Smythe turned to crime in order to fund future robots, which he dubbed “Spider-Slayers.” After radioactive materials he used to build the robots poisoned him, he faced a slow and fairly horrible death. Alistair Smythe inherited both the spider-slayers and a hatred of Spidey. The younger Smythe went on to experiment on himself, eventually becoming the villain, the Ultimate Spider-Slayer.

The character of Spencer Smythe was mentioned on the film’s Daily Bugle Tumblr page, which features several fictional news stories set in Spider-Man’s New York City. One of the faux-stories focuses on Spencer Smythe, and lists him as the head of engineering for Oscorp. If Spencer Smythe appears in the film, it’s currently unknown who will play him.

Some possible spoilers/conjecture below:

There are several possibilities as to how Smythe – either of them – will fit into the movie. One theory (of ours) is that the Rhino suit will be created by Oscorp, which would put it under the purview of Spencer Smythe. The character of Rhino (played by Paul Giamatti) goes from a track suit-wearing thug to the operator of a complicated mech, suggesting he has help. The first film made it a point to portray Oscorp as a hub for all things anti-Spidey, so it would make sense that Oscorp was responsible for the Rhino suit in some way.

spider slayerIf Smythe is then responsible for Rhino (perhaps even indirectly – the suit could be stolen) then he would be in line with his comic book version, at least in the sense that he creates robotics that are used for destruction. It’s not a huge leap from that to Spider-Slayers.

Since Alistair is being introduced, it stands to reason that casting an up-and-coming actor like Novak would mean the character has an important part to play. With so much already going on in this film, it’s unlikely that we’ll see Spider-Slayers in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but there are more films coming in the future. The studio has already confirmed that it wants to make a third and a fourth film, as well as spin-offs, one of which would focus on the Sinister Six. Smythe was never a member of the Sinister Six, but there’s no reason he couldn’t be in the film version.

Regardless of what role he plays and whether or not bigger things are in store for Novak’s Smythe, the inclusion of both Smythes brings the total number of Spider-Man supervillains appearing in the film to six – even if they don’t appear as their supervillainous alter egos. The Smythes (assuming Spencer is in the film) will be joined by another villainous father-son duo: Harry (Dan DeHaan) and Norman Osborne (Chris Cooper). Those four will appear along with the aforementioned Rhino, as well as Electro (Jamie Foxx). And that’s just the ones we know about.

How to run the bases at Big Apple Ballers Stadium in Spider-Man 2
Peter and Miles leap in the air in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is bigger, bolder, and better in nearly every way compared to its two predecessors, offering new and expansive sections of New York City to explore during your quest for 100% completion. But if you're also looking to earn every trophy the game has to offer to earn the coveted Platinum, you've probably noticed a bronze trophy called "Home Run!" that asks you to run the bases at Big Apple Ballers Stadium. You don't have to hit a homer to score this trophy, but you do need to take a lap around the bases, so we'll tell you where to find Big Apple Ballers Stadium below so you can start living out your baseball legend dreams.
Where to find Big Apple Ballers Stadium
Big Apple Ballers Stadium is located in Downtown Brooklyn, which can be found at the very bottom of the southeast portion of the map. While it's a little difficult to make out the stadium on the map, you'll definitely be able to recognize it in-game as you swing closer, as it's quite a large stadium located not too far from the amusement park you visit as part of the story.

Of course, finding the stadium is only part of the equation for getting the Home Run! trophy. Once you reach the stadium, make your way to home plate and then run the bases in a counter-clockwise fashion (home, first, second, third, home) as if you'd just hit a home run.

How to change suits in Spider-Man 2
Spider-Man soars through the air in a biomechanical suit in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

Everyone knows the iconic Spider-Man suit. The red-and-blue spandex uniform has been iterated on and altered hundreds of times over the course of decades, leading to some similar and some very different designs. Spider-Man 2 introduces Venom and the symbiote suit to the mix as a plot point, but there are almost 70 total suits from various comics, shows, and movies to unlock and wear between Peter pParker and Miles Morales. Unlocking them is one thing, but changing between them, and their new styles, is another. With this guide, you will be able to change your spider style as fast as our heroes when duty calls.
How to change suits

Once you've snagged your first additional suit and used some Tokens to unlock it, changing between them is a breeze. Simply open your menu, go to the Suits tab, and highlight the one you want to wear. If you want to switch between Peter and Miles, simply hit L2 or R2 to cycle between the Spider-Men since each has their own unique set of suit options. Press X on the suit you want to wear and -- bam! -- your Spider-Man is now decked out in a new style. However, that's not all. Many suits have additional styles you can unlock by spending some Tech Parts. These give you three additional color options for that specific suit to further customize your look.

Spider-Man 2 Just Let Go trophy guide: Where to find the science trophy
Miles sitting on top of a building at sunset.

There is no shortage of collectibles to gather and activities to do in Spider-Man 2. From photo-ops to Prowler Stashes, the map is filled with icons showing you where to go to find just about anything you need. One thing that isn't marked on your map, however, is a very special collectible for Miles Morales. This isn't required for any specific quest, and won't give you any XP, but it does reward you with the Just Let Go trophy that is necessary if you want to get the coveted Platinum trophy. With no clues as to where to find this tiny science trophy on the massive New York map, you could spend hours swinging around looking. Instead, we'll show you exactly where to look so you can check this trophy off your list.
How to get the Just Let Go trophy

The science trophy we're looking for is in the southern part of the Financial District on a church. The exact location can be seen above, but the church itself is impossible to miss once you're in the area. When you reach the church, climb up onto the roof behind the main steeple and look up at the small balcony running around it. If you're close enough, you will see the small white circle indicating that there's something you can interact with there.
