Battlefield 3 releases insane beta numbers

Image used with permission by copyright holder

You like it, you really like it. Or at least you liked it enough to try it. That statement is true of 8.1 million gamers that downloaded and tried out the recent beta for Battlefield 3. To put that in perspective, that is the entire population of New York City (not counting the metro), it is the number of Kinects sold in the first 60 days, and if every person that played the beta chipped in a dollar they could all buy 6 Bugati Veyrons. Consider your mind blown.

Along with the 8.1 million people figure, DICE also released a handful of other stats, which are located in the graphic above. Among the most eye-opening is the longest headshot, at 635.6 meters and 1.5 billion kills. Billion, with a “B.” In a real world setting, a sniper shot of 635.6 meters wouldn’t be all all that remarkable (the longest recorded shot is 2,475 meters), but for a video game to be able to clear display 635.6 meters of visible area, probably more, is incredible.

All of those fancy stats simply mean that there is a lot of interest in Battlefield 3. Hopefully the massive influx of gamers gave DICE whatever they needed from the beta to ensure a solid multiplayer experience, but we’ll find ouy soon enough when Battlefield 3 is released on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 25.

Load your mags and get ready to go weapons hot because Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is so close you can nearly smell the gunpowder. The Call of Duty franchise has yet to miss a year since the original Modern Warfare, and even though this is the second Modern Warfare 3 we've had, this is obviously a completely new battlefield. Not only will the campaign wrap up the globe-trotting plotline set up in the prior two games, but you can expect the usual suite of modes, including multiplayer, zombies, and tie-ins with the hit Warzone 2. With the betas all concluded, fans are left with nothing to look forward to except the full release, but there is still a way to get ready. Here's all the intel you need on preloading Modern Warfare 3.

Will Payday 3 get an offline mode?
Character posing for Payday 3 promo art.

It's no secret to anyone who attempted to play Payday 3 near its launch that it had more than a few issues. This co-op shooter is built on the idea of you and three friends teaming up to pull off various heists to collect money, level up, and unlock new skills -- and then repeat it all on higher difficulty levels. However, due to some major server issues, the majority of people haven't been able to find matches at all, leading to a major outcry for an offline mode since there's no way to interact with the game otherwise. As of now, the game remains an always-online experience. Fortunately, developer Starbreeze Studios has been quick to respond to player feedback, but do its plans include an offline mode?
Is Payday 3 getting an offline mode?

At a developer live stream on September 25, Almir Listo, global brand director for Starbreeze, said there are currently no plans to create an offline mode for Payday 3. Listo further explained the server issues that had been occurring so far, stating that "Payday 3 matchmaking infrastructure has not performed as tested and expected. Matchmaking software encountered an unforeseen error which made it unable to handle the massive influx of players. The issue caused an unrecoverable situation for Starbreeze's matchmaking partners." The team is evaluating all solutions in both the short and long term, including seeking out new matchmaking partners.

Dishonored 3: release date window, rumors, and more
Key art for Dishonored

The Dishonored series has always been a critical darling and it has cultivated a small, but passionate fanbase. The original game got some DLC, a sequel in Dishonored 2, and one last entry called Death of the Outsider in 2017, but since then the franchise has remained dormant. The studio's latest game, Deathloop, shares some DNA with Dishonored, but is certainly its own beast. However, since the success of that new IP far exceeded anything Dishonored had achieved, many fans felt we'd never return to Dunwall to see the conclusion of the story. Thanks to the recent leak of some court documents related to the Activision purchase by Xbox, which owns Dishonored publisher Bethesda, new hope has appeared for the existence of Dishonored 3.
Release window

According to the leaked documents, which we should still take with skepticism until an official public statement is made, Dishonored 3 is currently planned for a "FY24E" release. FY24E is shorthand for Fiscal Year 2024, which runs between April 2024 and March 2025. Again, things are likely to change, if they haven't already, but this is at least a good starting point to predict the earliest we might see it.
Platforms
Again, this is just speculation until the game is officially confirmed, but considering that Xbox owns publisher Bethesda, Dishonored 3 is almost certainly going to be an Xbox console exclusive with a PC port. It should also be available as a day one Game Pass title, as all Xbox first party titles are.
Trailers
As mentioned, Dishonored 3 isn't even meant to be known about publicly yet, so no marketing exists for the game. All we have is the name.
