Behold the arsenal of Rage

As any long time first-person shooter fan can tell you, the weapons you have at your disposal make a huge difference to the success of a game. Having a lot of weapons to choose from is good, but having weapons that make a satisfying boom is even better. It is a lesson most FPS makers know well, and id Software knows it better than most.

In the behind-the-scenes clip below, the makers of the upcoming game Rage discuss some of the tools you will have at your disposal, from the standard weapons like the sniper rifle and shotgun, to the wingstick, an evil boomerang on steroids that will likely become somewhat synonymous with the game. Then there are also the support tools you can use, like the explosive RC cars and the turrets you can set up.

The selection of weapons and tools in Rage is fairly insane, and the reason for that is so you have multiple ways to play. If you want to scream “Leeeroooy Jenkins!” and charge in with guns blazing, you have that choice; if you prefer to set up traps and then draw enemies to you while you laugh manically at the growing pile of bodies at your feet, you have that option as well, sicko.

The idea of having multiple ways to play the game is one that id has been touting since the game was announced. In the previous making-of clip, titled The Dawn, the idea of choices is mentioned as an integral part of the game from the first moment that you wake in the Wasteland.

It is no exaggeration to say that Rage is among the most anticipated games of the year, both with fans and critics alike. The new id Tech 5 engine looks amazing, and the early reactions to the game have been strong enough that there are already rumors about a sequel. Check out the clip below for a look at some of the weapons and options you will have in the game. It will be a long wait between now and when Rage is released for Mac, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 4.

Developer Digital Eclipse is working on a surprising project: Volgarr the Viking 2. The 2D retro sequel will launch on August 6 for PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

The news is an out of left field reveal. The first Volgarr the Viking game released in 2013 and was made as an ode to 1080s classics like Ghosts 'n Goblins. Despite being a small release, it sold over 1 million copies over the past decade. As revealed during today's Guerrilla Collective stream, the series is coming back with a new sequel by Digital Eclipse, the team behind this year's Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story.
