Bungie is banning the Destiny accounts of players who have logged in to the online shooter with modified consoles, according to a recent news update from the studio. “The BanHammer has been a-swingin’,” says the post, and shut out Guardians apparently have little recourse, because “Ninja Justice is always swift and final.”

The developer does not explicitly link the modded consoles to cheating, but it is implied through correlation between recently banned players and those that “had logged into Destiny on a modified console at some point.” A cursory YouTube search for “Destiny God Mode,” for instance, brings back a number of videos demonstrating cheats, such as unlimited ammo and super jumping, that rely on using a modified PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.

Cheating of this nature appears to be limited to the previous generation of consoles and not the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, at least for the time being. Hackers have already had years to develop practices for breaking into and modifying the older consoles’ firmware, while the newer hardware is still resilient to their incursions at this early point in the console life cycle.

“We routinely review Banhammer actions to ensure that they are applied accurately and fairly,” the developer elaborated. The post ends with a cheeky sign-off: “Play nice! And use the boxes that your favorite retailer ‘gave’ you.”

Destiny 2: Lightfall fails to deliver its Avengers: Infinity War moment
A titan wielding a grenade launcher in Destiny 2..

The comparison between Destiny 2: Lightfall and Avengers: Infinity War is immediate from the opening moments of Bungie's latest expansion. There is no more exposition to get through; the Witness, a mythical villain that represents the root of the Darkness that Guardians have fought against for close to a decade, is here, and the Traveler who has given our heroes the Light and their god-like abilities is under direct threat. The stakes couldn't be higher, but Lightfall doesn't live up to that moment.

I'm not drawing connections here that shouldn't be made -- the bombastic opening moments of Lightfall call back Infinity War's unrelenting momentum in its first act. The Traveler is under siege in Lightfall and Guardians are dismantled by a flick of the Witness' wrist, echoing the immediate slaughter brought by the hands of Thanos moments before he arrived on Earth. That feeling is the same; our antagonist is here, and there's nowhere else to run. In the final moments of the campaign, a member of my fireteam even exclaimed, "hey, that's a line from Infinity War."

Bayonetta jumps in front of text that says The Best Nintendo Switch Exclusives of 2022.

The Nintendo Switch turned five this year … and with that birthday came a wave of discourse. Fans are anxious for Nintendo to launch a new piece of hardware, whether that be a Switch Pro or a new console altogether. It’s an understandable request; the once magical Switch now seems a little less impressive in the age of the Steam Deck. However, this year once again proved why Nintendo can get away with aging hardware: its games are just that good.

Even without The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to cap it off, 2022 was a landmark year for the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo delivered its best lineup of exclusive games since the console first launched in 2017 -- though it's no coincidence that some of this year’s best games were sequels to its first-year titles. We've put together a list of the best Nintendo Switch exclusives of 2022 below, but what's jaw-dropping is that this doesn't even include everything worth talking about. That's a testament to Nintendo's strong first-party support, which remains its unshakable secret weapon.

Basim perched on a ledge overlooking Baghdad

In a company interview with CEO Yves Guillemot posted on the Ubisoft website Thursday, the executive reveals that there are remakes of Assassin's Creed games in the works, although he doesn't specify which ones.

"Players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we've created in the past and modernize them," he says, implying that it could pertain to games made before Odyssey. "There are worlds in some of our older Assassin's Creed games that are still extremely rich."
