Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War apparently confirmed by leaked Doritos promo

The next game in the Call of Duty series is believed to be titled Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and it appears that this has been confirmed by an unlikely source.

Activision and developer Treyarch have not officially announced the new Call of Duty, but rumors as far back as almost a year ago claim that the game will be set in the Cold War. The title of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has been tossed around for a while, but a leaked promotion with Doritos may have confirmed the game’s name and logo.

These are the two Doritos Double XP promotional images that I was DM'd earlier from an anonymous source for Call of Duty 2020 Black Ops Cold War. I was too worried about copyright issues to post them earlier but since CharlieIntel shared them I (assume?) they're safe. pic.twitter.com/yvvjH7CvKU

If the images are real, the double XP promotion with Doritos will start on October 5 and end on January 31. This likely means that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will launch near the end of October, similar to the release window of last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The 2019 Call of Duty‘s double XP promotion started on October 1, and the game was then released on October 25.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War rumors

Activision initially tapped support studio Raven Software to lead the 2020 Call of Duty project alongside Call of Duty: WWII developer Sledgehammer Games. However, the studios reportedly got into frequent arguments, leading to the decision to hand over development to Treyarch.

It remains to be seen how Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will take advantage of next-generation consoles, and if it will again feature the polarizing zombies mode that has been a fixture in Call of Duty: Black Ops games.

You can get Call of Duty and Alan Wake with PS Plus in July
Key art for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War season 2.

Sony has confirmed the three PS4 and PS5 games PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers will receive this July, and it's actually the best lineup the service has seen in a while. It features one of the best Call of Duty games from recent years, a cult classic that needs to be played before its sequel launches next year, and an overlooked 2022 indie.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was first released in 2020 and, as its title suggests, is set in the 1980s during the Cold War. It features one of the most creative Call of Duty campaigns since Modern Warfare 2 and makes excellent use of DualSense's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. The multiplayer and zombie modes are good fun too. Next up is Alan Wake Remastered, a remaster of an excellent 2010 horror-thriller from Control developer Remedy Entertainment. It's an experience best played unspoiled, so I'll simply recommend you go and play this. Its PS Plus addition is timed well, too, as Alan Wake II is set to release and continue the story this October.
Finally, Endling - Extinction is Forever is available this month. This 2022 indie game follows a mother fox as she tries to protect her cubs in a forest continuously getting ravaged by humans. It's a chilling, staunchly harrowing adventure that clearly displays the negative effects of deforestation, pollution, and environmental exploitation. You might have missed this game last year, as it came out on the same day as Stray, so definitely give it a shot now if you haven't yet.
This lineup of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Cross-Gen Bundle, Alan Wake Remastered, and Endling - Extinction is Forever is one of the best lineups PS Plus Essential has seen in months, so definitely pick up these games when they are available between July 4 and July 31. Make sure you download June's titles before July 4 as well.

Call of Duty: Warzone Rebirth Island tips for Season 5 Reloaded
call of duty warzone how to level up weapons fast rebirth

Call of Duty: Warzone's Rebirth Island was implemented in December 2020 as part of the Black Ops Cold War integration. This additional map is a lot smaller than Verdansk or Caldera and plays differently, with more fast-paced action that often results in riskier playstyles. Matches last around 10 to 20 minutes, and things get hectic as soon as you touch the ground.

One of its main differences, aside from the size of the map, is that you're able to respawn as long as at least one of your team members is alive. There's a lot of nuance to how this works, and it forces you to be strategic when approaching certain situations. Now, as of the Season 5 Reloaded update, the small-scale map has undergone a substantial number of changes.

Soldiers from the Warzone Pacific update.

Call of Duty: Warzone launched in March 2020 and has seen more than 100 million players since then, making it one of the most successful battle royale games to date. Since launch, it has gotten multiple seasons of content, bringing its community new weapons, contracts, and things to do around the large open world of Verdansk and now, the WWII-themed Caldera. Even Godzilla and King Kong made an appearance earlier in Season 3 2022.

The most recent Call of Duty games, including Modern Warfare, Black Ops Cold War, and Vanguard, have all been integrated into Warzone, unifying the progression systems of all three games. That means all of your weapons in Modern Warfare, Cold War, and Vanguard are usable in Warzone, giving you more options at your disposal.
