Xbox One players complain about 66GB update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

The latest update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare requires a 66GB download for Xbox One players, far larger than the sizes of its PlayStation 4 and PC counterparts.

The update, which applies several general fixes that includes the removal of some maps from certain game modes, requires only a 1.2GB download for the PlayStation 4 and up to 1.83GB for the PC. Infinity Ward blames “an unforeseen bug” with Microsoft’s patch delivery process for the bloated update file for the Xbox One.

Infinity Ward assures Xbox One players that the 66GB download will not affect the overall install size of Modern Warfare and free-to-play battle royale Warzone, which will take up to 183GB and 99.5GB after the update, respectively. This is because the issue requires players to re-download certain files, not add more files to their console’s hard drive.

The space that Modern Warfare and Warzone take up in hard drives is a different matter, however, with Infinity Ward claiming that it will prioritize reducing the size of the game. Xbox One players took to Twitter to launch their complaints about the 66GB update.

You do realise it’s taking Me 6hrs at least to download it I’m sure there are others are the same or taking
even longer
It’s fine saying overall file size not impacted but it’s the length of time it’s taking to download the file size
that’s agriveing us all

That is insane. 1.2 GB for PS4, 66 GB for Xbox. I realize it’s a glitch or whatever, and it doesn’t increase the file size, but that doesn’t make me feel better about spending 10 hours downloading an update that should’ve taken 10 minutes. Smh.

So basically the weekends gameplay ruined for xbox players, and no so much as a double xp bonus to make up for the lost time. You knew the MS patch limitations before you pushed this out, but didnt care.

With the timing of the update, released on Friday night, Xbox One players who were looking to play Modern Warfare or Warzone for the weekend were surprised with the required 66GB download. For those with slower internet connections, it will take a while before the update is completed.

Next Call of Duty

With the file size issues surrounding Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, players may already be looking ahead to the next game in the series. It will reportedly be titled ]Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, according to a leaked Doritos promo (no, really!).

The next game, which may launch in October or November, could send players back to the struggle for world dominance between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. Here’s everything we know about the next Call of Duty, save one fact of course: The required hard drive space for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War remains to be seen.

Modern Warfare 3 Zombies: Mercenary Convoy guide
Soldiers in a car driving and shooting zombies.

The old format of Zombies has been left behind in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in favor of a more open-world, objective-based take on the undead survival game type. This time, you will squad up and drop into a map with specific objectives you can choose to complete to earn tons of XP, while also pushing the narrative forward and unlocking new, more difficult tasks to take on. The early-tier missions are generally very simple, but in Act 1, you will be given the objective to find and destroy a Mercenary Convoy somewhere on the map. This sounds easy enough on paper until you realize you have no idea where this convey is or how to find it. Every run in Zombies risks losing all your hard-earned progress, so we'll lead you to the Mercenary Convoy to take it out before the zombies even know you were there.
How to find the Mercenary Convoy

Your first challenge will be to find this Mercenary Convoy. The problem here is twofold: first is that it isn't marked on your map in any way, and second is that, being a convoy, it is mobile. Once you land, you and your team should find the nearest vehicle and head toward the center of the map. Depending on how the threat levels are on your particular map, you are looking for roads and highways that are around the medium-threat level zone. You will have to patrol these roads until you come across the convoy, which only consists of three vehicles. Once you are in range, it does appear on your map to let you know you've found it.

Modern Warfare 3 Zombies: tips and tricks for MWZ
A soldier with a Pack-A-Punch weapon fires at zombies from behind cover.

The mega-popular Zombies mode has never undergone as massive of a restructuring as it has for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. What was originally a round-based, co-op survival mode where you and a team of four gradually powered up, expanded the map, and maybe tried to complete a challenging Easter egg story has become something more of a mix of Zombies and the new DMZ mode from last year's entry.

While there will be plenty that is familiar to Zombies veterans, such as Perk-a-Colas and mystery boxes, you won't be able to rely on your old tactics anymore. Surviving the new Zombies mode is a completely new ballgame in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, but these tips and tricks will help you and your squad survive threats both old and new.

How to rank up fast in Modern Warfare 3: best ways to farm XP
A soldier with a shotgun in Modern Warfare 3.

Every year when the new Call of Duty title drops, the playing field is once again reset as everyone needs to start grinding back up the ranks. Fully embracing the RPG elements, Modern Warfare 3 once again allows you to earn XP as you play match after match to rank up your character, with each rank not only bringing you closer to hitting prestige but also unlocking new options for your chosen operator. Your player rank is unique from your weapon levels and can take a lot longer to grind if you don't know the most efficient methods. If you want to fast-track your career through the ranks, here are the fastest ways to earn XP in Modern Warfare 3.
How to earn XP fast in Modern Warfare 3
There's basically no way you can play Modern Warfare 3 without earning XP, but some modes and methods can earn you double (or more) what you could if you were just playing without a plan.
Play the objective

We all love playing team deathmatch or any other mode where all you need to worry about is being the one to shoot first. However, if you want to earn that sweet XP fast, you need to choose one of the objective modes like Domination, Hardpoint, Ground War, or even Kill Confirmed. Not only do you get XP for killing enemies, but the amount you get on top of that for playing the objective can make up the bulk of your XP gain. This is especially true if you're not at the top of your game and end up dying more than you kill since you have another method to contribute. Also, objective modes grant you an XP bonus just for finishing the match.
