Watch the just-unveiled ‘Call of Duty: WWII’ trailer right here

Call of Duty: WWII, the next game in the series, will launch November 3 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, Activision announced in a live-stream broadcast Wednesday. The new game will bring the franchise back to the second World War for the first time in a decade. We got our first look at the game from the trailer shown above, as well as a wealth of details about the upcoming game. The game was officially announced last week after leaked marketing materials disclosed basic details about game, including the game’s name and setting.

The single player campaign is largely set in the European Theater in 1944 to 1945. You play as U.S. 1st Infantry Division private Ronald “Red” Daniels. As you make your way through Europe, you take part in some of the most storied battles of the war, including D-Day at Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. You will not play every mission as Red, though, as Activision showed off one where you take the role of a female French resistance fighter.

The Call of Duty franchise is known for securing prominent voice talent, and WWII will be no different. Actors Josh Duhamel, Jonathan Tucker, and Jeffrey Pierce, are all on board for the campaign.

Activision emphasized “grounded, fast gameplay” that will reward expert gunplay. The campaign will have a dark tone as well as a keen awareness of the historical weight of the events. The developers traveled to the English Channel and did their homework to make the game’s locations as realistic as possible. It seems that the goal of the campaign is to illicit a strong emotional reaction to the horrors of war while introducing a new generation of people to this pivotal point in history.

On the multiplayer side of things, there will be a separate co-operative campaign called “Nazi Zombies,” which will have its own story and reportedly shake up the series’ zombie format. Nazi Zombies will effectively be a horror mode as it involves the Third Reich’s to create a new army in the final years of the war.

As far as competitive multiplayer, outside of the traditional deathmatch modes, there will be at least one new mode dubbed “War Mode.” The mode will drop you into historic battles as either a part of the Allies or the Axis. Each team will have different objectives to complete in order to come out on top.

Character classes will be replaced by Divisions and although Activision did not reveal many details about the switch, we do know that you will be able to enlist as different units such as infantrymen.

When you are not in the trenches, you can hang out in “Headquarters,” and interact with other players online. Headquarters sounds not all that different than the Tower in Destiny.

More details are expected at E3 in June and we will have a full roundup of all the Call of Duty: WWII news and rumors soon.

The best weapons in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
A soldier standing in an armory.

To the layman, every gun in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 probably seems the same. They all shoot bullets, right? In reality, that couldn't be further from the truth. Even when you take player skill out of the equation, each gun has vastly different stats and applications that make some, even within their own category, just plain better choices for everyone. Each gun is broken down into various stats, including recoil, ADS speed, damage, and much more, which makes it hard to easily compare them. When you factor in just how many guns are available as you level up and keep unlocking more, the prospect of picking the best ones becomes overwhelming. If you're trying to build the ideal loadout to dominate the current meta, these are the best weapons in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for each weapon type.

We will detail the top picks per each class, and then list the rest in terms of how they rank.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III trailer teases a No Russian reimagining
No Russian's reimagining in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III

Activision Blizzard has fully pulled back the curtain on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III following an in-game event in its predecessor. This came alongside new gameplay that concludes by teasing a rebooted version of the series' infamous No Russian mission.
The gameplay trailer focuses on the campaign missions, which got a lot more detail in a post on the game's website. It affirms that the game follows Task Force 141 as they take on Vladimir Makarov and will feature some "Open Combat Missions" that give players multiple ways to complete objectives. The gameplay seems to mainly feature a stealthy run to one of these levels. Of course, the trailer's most shocking moment comes at the end.
Gameplay Reveal Trailer | Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III
We see Makarov text someone "No Russian," before they pull out a gun on a crowded plane. If you don't remember, No Russian was one of the original Modern Warfare II's most infamous missions, as it had players partake in a mass shooting terrorist attack at an airport with Russians. The level has influenced the tone of this rebooted Modern Warfare series, and it now looks like Modern Warfare III is set to reimagine this mission in some way, following up the Modern Warfare II post-credit scene that referenced it.

While the trailer focused on the campaign mainly, that post confirmed a lot of new info on multiplayer and Modern Warfare Zombies too. Its multiplayer features all 16 launch maps from 2009's Modern Warfare II, two larger Battle maps for Ground War and Invasion, and an even bigger War map for the return of the War Mode introduced in Call of Duty: WWII. Map voting returns, so you can have a say in where you want to play a match.  Finally, Activision says Modern Warfare Zombies takes place in a new open world where players will fight Dark Aether Zombies, complete missions, and incorporate Extraction game elements.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III launches on PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on November 10.
