‘Call of Duty: WWII’ dev teases zombies mode reveal for Comic-Con

Since its debut in Call of Duty: World at War, the franchise’s “zombies” mode has become an essential part of the overall experience for fans. Now, it seems like we’re only a matter of days away from learning how this game type will factor into this year’s Call of Duty: WWII.

Earlier this week, Sledgehammer Games studio head Glen Schofield shared an image teasing the game’s zombies mode on Twitter. An undead maw is accompanied by text reading “July 20,” which seems to suggest that the mode is set to be unveiled at San Diego Comic Con.

Call of Duty, specifically its zombies mode, is no stranger to the event. In 2015, Activision unveiled the star-studded voice cast that took on the horde in Black Ops III, according to a report from Gamespot.

Call of Duty: WWII is a “return to the series’ roots” in many respects, and it seems that its zombies mode is no exception. Just like in World at War, players will be facing off with undead Nazis, rather than the more varied undead opposition that we’ve seen over the last few years.

The image shared by Schofield is pretty disgusting, and sets a much darker tone than we’ve seen from the zombies mode as of late. Recent installments in the franchise have put a comedic spin on zombies — the framing narrative for the mode in Infinite Warfare cast players as actors being tormented by a deranged film director. However, it seems more than likely that the Zombies mode in WWII will go in a very different direction.

Call of Duty fans have plenty to look forward to when it comes to this year’s installment, and a compelling zombies mode will only sweeten the deal. Heading back to the past seems to have shaken things up considerably, and there is already far more hype surrounding WWII than there has been for the past few titles in the series

Call of Duty: WWII is set to release across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 3, 2017. San Diego Comic-Con runs from July 20 to 23, with the zombies reveal scheduled for day one of the event.

Call of Duty: Warzone is finally coming to mobile in March

Activision's popular battle royale game Call of Duty: Warzone is making the jump to mobile in March. Specifically, it launches for iOS and Android devices on March 21.

This is a separate game from Tencent's Call of Duty: Mobile, which is currently available on the App Store and Google Play Store. Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is made in-house by several Activision teams, including Beenox, Digital Legends, Solid State Studios, and Shanghai Studios. Further signifying that connection is that Warzone Mobile has shared progression with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and the PC and console versions of Warzone. Payers can level up the same weapons, access content from the BlackCell Battle Pass and store, and gain XP on the same account across all three games. Warzone Mobile will also have full controller support, although it will have a virtual controller overlay that's highly customizable.

Circana's Mat Piscatella has released video game market highlights for 2023, and WB Games' Hogwarts Legacy ended up being the bestselling game of 2023, beating out the likes of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

"Hogwarts Legacy finished as 2023’s bestselling video game in the U.S. market in dollar sales. It is the first year since 2008 that a non-Call of Duty or Rockstar-developed title ranked 1st (Rock Band)," Piscatella explained on X. "Hogwarts Legacy was the bestselling game of the year on PlayStation platforms, ranked 2nd on Xbox platforms, and placed 5th on Nintendo platforms."
