Koch Media Group has acquired the rights to the Homefront franchise from Crytek, including all work completed thus far on Crytek Nottingham’s upcoming Homefront: The Revolution, a press release confirms. The game, along with its developers, will transfer to the newly-founded Deep Silver Dambuster Studios, also in Nottingham.
“We are thrilled to see another great IP joining the Deep Silver universe,” said Dr. Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Koch Media Group. “We strongly believe in the potential of Homefront: The Revolution and trust in the new team to continue the path they have been walking in the last years.” The Revolution picks up a few years after the first Homefront, with the new story tasking you with fomenting insurrection against the rooted North Korean occupation of Philadelphia.
The IP transfer comes as part of a larger corporate restructuring for Crytek which will hone down their developmental work to focus on publishing. The reorganization follows rumors of financial difficulties leading to unpaid employees in Crytek’s UK and American studios, as reported by Kotaku. Development of the action co-op game Hunt: Horrors of the Guilded Age will transfer from Crytek’s Austin, TX studio to Germany, leaving behind only the CryEngine support team in Austin.
For its part Crytek seems optimistic about the move. In a press release from the company, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli added “As we look to cement Crytek’s future, this strategic deal with Koch Media would allow us to continue with our ambitious goals to become an online publisher.”
