Diablo 3 headed to consoles?

It still isn’t clear exactly when we can expect to see Diablo 3 other than the vague hopes of late 2011, but when it comes out, it may be on consoles as well as PC. The news is based on a posting by Blizzard on Gamasutra for a console producer, which was first seen by Tom’s Hardware.

The exact job post is looking for a “Senior Producer, Console Diablo III”. The job is full time with the Diablo team, and specifically requests that candidates have experience with console game development. The listing also requires a minimum of four years of experience in the video game industry, and candidates must have been listed in a senior producer role on “at least one AAA console title”(AAA titles are developed for the Xbox 360 and PS3, AA are Wii, and single A are for PSP and DS).

So it looks like Xbox 360 and PS3 gamers will have the chance to play Diablo 3! Someday, probably. Sadly, the post does not say what timetable the candidate would need to work under. Not that it should, but it would have been nice to read something like “candidate must complete work by November 15”, or maybe “candidate must be willing to work long hours until December 6”. All indications point to a 2011 release for Diablo 3, so here’s hoping.

Little Nightmares 3 receives a little delay into 2025
Low and Alone standing in a brown empty room together in Little Nightmares 3.

Fans of video games where you play little folks running away from much larger folks will have to wait a bit longer for a game that fits that bill. Side-scrolling horror puzzler Little Nightmares 3 has been delayed to 2025 after originally having a 2024 release window.

The development team posted the announcement on X (formerly Twitter), saying that the studio needs a bit more time to ensure the quality is where they want it to be. It adds, though, that there will be more details coming later this summer, perhaps during one of the many summer showcases.

Console performance just took a huge step forward
Jack in Immortals of Aveum.

Choosing between PC and console just got a little trickier because a feature that was previously reserved for PCs is now available on the Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5. The feature in question? Frame generation, courtesy of AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 3. The tech did a superb job in the first tests on Xbox Series X, resulting in an up to 72% performance uplift in Immortals of Aveum. While this is a big step for AMD, and for console gaming as a whole, there are some downsides that underscore how this tech is still in its early days on consoles.

Upon the announcement that FSR 3 was now supported on all platforms as of the latest patch in Immortals of Aveum, Digital Foundry took the game out for a spin on an Xbox Series X, sharing its experience. The game, which normally tends to run at around 30 frames per second (fps) to 60 fps on the Xbox, saw a significant increase in frame rates, moving up from an average of 46 fps to 80 fps -- a 72% increase.
