First 'Dota 2' campaign comes free with every Battle Pass purchase

Dota 2 is getting a cooperative, story-driven campaign, suggesting Valve is not done producing narrative content just yet. Players can gain access to the campaign, called Siltbreaker, by buying into the International 2017 Battle Pass. Although you can spend a lot on it if you want, the base-level cost is just $10.

Valve’s Battle Pass has been a hit with Dota 2 fans for years now. It offers masses of in-game content for Dota 2 and 25 percent of the money from purchases of the game goes to the prize pool for the annual Dota 2 world championships, otherwise known as The International. This year, as well as the usual visual upgrades and couriers, Valve is also giving buyers access to the Siltbreaker campaign.

Although as a MOBA, Dota 2 is focused on the player-versus-player multiplayer matchups, Siltbreaker will take things in a different direction and open an adventure for players to experience as they explore the Dark Reef. They’ll need to traverse dangerous and strange lands, battle fearsome beasts, and ultimately earn even more in-game rewards.

Since the campaign is cooperative though, you’ll need to work together with friends or online acquaintances to battle through the two acts that comprise the story. The first, Sands of Fate, is set to arrive by the end of May, with the second, A Vault In The Deep, making its appearance in July.

To gain access to the campaign, you’ll need to put down $10 for the Battle Pass, though of course you can spend much more if you prefer. While those with time to spare may like to earn their experience naturally through play, Valve also offers level upgrades that range from just a few dollars for a few levels, to $10 for a bonus 24 levels.

Buying your way to the top would get rather expensive though, as there are 1,000 levels to make your way through for those who love the grind. There are tons of new skins, sounds, taunts, and more to unlock this year. If you do make it all the way though, you’ll have the chance to receive The International 2017’s Collector’s Aegis, a real, one-fifth-scale alloy replica of the prize this year’s world champions will walk away with.

At the time of writing The International 2017’s prize pool has reached $4.23 million and according to PrizeTrack, is well on its way to beating last year’s total of $20.7 million.

Soul Hackers 2 could have been the perfect Game Pass RPG
Soul Hackers 2 cast

Atlus created quite a bit of fanfare earlier this year when it announced that the Persona series would arrive on Xbox in October. But that isn’t the only JRPG the publisher had in store for Xbox owners this year. Soul Hackers 2 was a big get for Microsoft, bringing the Shin Megami Tensei style of gameplay to its systems with a fresh release. It launched at the end of August without nearly as much excitement as Persona — Persona 5’s Xbox release date announcement seemed to overshadow Soul Hackers 2’s entire existence.

According to Famitsu, Soul Hackers 2 sold an estimated 51,861 physical copies in Japan during its launch week across both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. While this doesn’t include digital download numbers, this is still well below Shin Megami Tensei V’s launch week numbers of 143,247 physical copies sold in Japan.

Overwatch 2’s heroes will be tied to battle passes. Here’s how it works
Kiriko throws items in Overwatch 2.

Blizzard shared several updates on Overwatch 2 at Tokyo Game Show ahead of the game's multiplayer beta launch. In addition to unveiling the game's latest hero, Kiriko, the company gave details on the game's new seasonal model. As part of the change, new heroes will now be tied to battle pass progression rather than offered unlocked for free.

The first Overwatch game took an organic approach to new content drops, releasing updates on no set time frame. Overwatch 2's new model will deliver content to players every nine weeks. Each update will add new content to the game regularly, including maps, modes, and cosmetics. A new hero will be added every other season following season 2. Seasons will bring a purchasable battle pass with over 80 tiers, 20 of which will be free to players who don't buy the full pass.

Overwatch 2 has cross-progression, but you’ll need to merge accounts first
Overwatch 2 Junker Queen

Blizzard announced that Overwatch 2 will launch with cross-progression across all platforms. The publisher released an explainer on Overwatch's official website on Tuesday, telling players everything they need to know about cross-progression and merging their accounts before the sequel launches on October 4.

All Overwatch 2 players will need a Battle.net account to play the game, regardless of their platform. Starting on August 16, Blizzard will let players choose the console accounts they want to merge into their Battle.net account. By doing this, players can carry all the items and progression they gained in the first game over to the sequel, regardless of the platforms they're playing on.
