Dr. Mario: Miracle Cure heads up this week’s Nintendo Download

A new entry in Nintendo’s long-running Dr. Mario puzzler series leads this week’s downloadable lineup for Nintendo consoles, the publisher announced today.

Dr. Mario: Miracle Cure for the Nintendo 3DS includes several modes familiar to series fans, along with a selection of new gameplay twists. In addition to the endless Classic mode, the block-dropping puzzler features a Virus Buster mode that introduces Miracle Cures, a chargeable power-up that helps players wipe out viruses in single-player and multiplayer sessions.

Miracle Cure also features gameplay mechanics plucked from last year’s downloadable Wii U puzzler Dr. Luigi. L-shaped blocks and two-sided pills add complexity to the classic color-matching formula, and force players to adopt new strategies in the game’s competitive versus modes.

Also hitting the eShop this week is Lego Jurassic World for the Wii U and 3DS. Featuring gameplay scenes inspired by the four films in the Jurassic Park film series, Lego Jurassic World is a co-op action-platformer in which players control both dinosaurs and their human prey. The game also offers a park-building component in which players can create and customize their own dinosaurs using collected DNA.

Finally, the Wii U’s Virtual Console adds another Game Boy Advance title to its lineup this week with Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town, a 2D remake of the PSone farmlife simulator Harvest Moon: Back to Nature. Filled with gameplay complexities despite its sprite-based exterior, Friends of Mineral Town challenges players to turn a profit by harvesting crops, mining for ore, and caring for livestock, all while maintaining a healthy social life in a nearby town.

Dr. Mario: Miracle Cure is available for $9, and Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town is up for grabs at $7. Lego Jurassic World is priced at $50 on the Wii U and $30 on the Nintendo 3DS.

In a company interview with CEO Yves Guillemot posted on the Ubisoft website Thursday, the executive reveals that there are remakes of Assassin's Creed games in the works, although he doesn't specify which ones.

"Players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we've created in the past and modernize them," he says, implying that it could pertain to games made before Odyssey. "There are worlds in some of our older Assassin's Creed games that are still extremely rich."

There have been a few Xbox devices that have never come to fruition, one of which was Keystone, a prototype for an affordable game streaming device you could hook up to your TV or monitor. Thanks to a surfaced patent, we've gotten an even closer look at what it would've potentially looked like.

The patent, first spotted by Windows Central, gives us a more complete view of the device. We've previously seen the Keystone in the flesh. Microsoft Gaming head Phil Spencer is known for hiding teases and interesting collectibles on the shelf in his office. In a 2022 X (formerly Twitter) post congratulating Bethesda on Fallout's 25th anniversary, you can see a small white device on the top shelf that's actually a Keystone prototype. Xbox told Digital Trends that it was a version of the device made before it decided to "refocus our efforts on a new approach.”
