Here are the games and announcements from the Ubisoft E3 2019 conference

From Ghost Recon to Watch Dogs, here's what we saw at the Ubisoft E3 2019 show

Ubisoft E3 2019 Conference | Ubisoft [NA]

Ubisoft always packs its E3 press conferences full of new game announcements, as well as additional gameplay for titles it revealed in the past. This year was no exception, with the Ubisoft E3 2019 press conference delivering a mix of colorful, lighthearted titles with hardcore Tom Clancy-verse games and the return of an acclaimed franchise. As long as you weren’t hoping for a new Splinter Cell this year, there was something for you at the presentation. Here are the biggest games and announcements from the Ubisoft E3 2019 press conference. For even more news from the show, including information on Rob McElhenney’s show Mythic Quest, watch the full conference above.

Watch Dogs Legion

Watch Dogs: Legion: E3 2019 Gameplay Walkthrough | Ubisoft [NA]

Its title was revealed prior to the show, but Ubisoft showed Watch Dogs Legion in action for the first time at its press conference. Set in a near-future London that has been ravaged by Brexit and practically taken over by an authoritative entity known as “Albion,” Watch Dogs Legion tasks you with forming a resistance organization to fight back and liberate the city for its citizens. The kicker is that there is no main protagonist — any character you recruit becomes the main character until they are killed, at which point they are gone for good. If you want to play as a Cockney street hustler, you can, or you can play as an ex-assassin grandmother. The cinematics change based on who you’re controlling and they’re all fully voiced.

In a lengthy gameplay demonstration, Ubisoft showed off an origin mission for a potential recruit. Multiple members of the DeadSec organization work together to locate and rescue a man skilled at hacking drones. This is done through a mix of reconnaissance, driving, gadgetry, and direct combat, and it includes some gruesome gun-fu-style takedowns. Though the moment-to-moment formula doesn’t seem drastically different from the previous two games, the potential for telling your own stories through the characters you control is impressive.

Watch Dogs Legion is out for Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Google Stadia on March 6, 2020.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint: E3 2019 Walker Manifesto | Ubisoft [NA]

Ubisoft gave Ghost Recon Breakpoint its grand unveiling earlier this spring, but the game was still given plenty of time in the spotlight, complete with star Jon Bernthal. During the press conference, we learned that his character Cole Walker will effectively be in control of an entire army, making it the most dangerous mission the Ghosts have ever faced. Walker’s loyalists are called the “Wolves,” and they will be hunting you after you are stranded behind enemy lines. Only with your wits and combat skills can you hope to succeed.

Based on feedback received following the game’s unveiling, Ubisoft decided to add A.I.-controlled partners for those in solo play, albeit as a post-launch update. You’ll be able to get your hands on Ghost Recon Breakpoint during the beta period September 5, with the full game launching for Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Google Stadia on October 4. Ubisoft plans to support it for the foreseeable future through additional content and free updates. For those particularly interested in the game, they can sign up for the new fan program, Ghost Recon: Delta Company.

Rainbow Six Quarantine

Rainbow Six Quarantine: E3 2019 Teaser Trailer | Ubisoft [NA]

Rainbow Six Siege offers a terrific tactical shooter experience for competitive multiplayer, but Ubisoft is developing a new game for those more interested in cooperative play. Rainbow Six Quarantine is a three-person cooperative shooter, and it appears to feature zombie-like creatures as enemies. In the teaser trailer, a man holding a pistol crawls with his back to a wall as creatures skitter by in the distance. He looks down at his arm, which appears to be infected, and receives an auto-injection just as teammates arrive. The game is built on the same foundation as Siege, but it appears Ubisoft is throwing all semblance of realism out the window.

Rainbow Six Quarantine will be available in early 2020.

The Division 2 and The Division movie

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2: E3 2019 Year 1 First Look Trailer | Ubisoft [NA]

Ubisoft is not charging for post-launch downloadable content in Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, and you’ll be able to play the first episode later this year. Called DC Outskirts: Expeditions, the content takes you out of Washington D.C. itself into the nearby woodlands, National Zoo, and Kenly College in pursuit of different targets. In Episode 2, you’ll head to the Pentagon to take on the Black Tusks, and Episode 3 will arrive in 2020 and put The Division up against a former ally.

Alongside the new game news, Ubisoft also reaffirmed its commitment to producing a The Division movie starring Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal. The film will be directed by David Leitch of John Wick and Atomic Blonde fame, and it will be released through Netflix. No release date or information on the narrative was given during the conference, but it is one of several films Ubisoft has in the works.

Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad

Tom Clancy's Elite Squad: E3 2019 Mobile Game Announcement Trailer | Ubisoft [NA]

Ubisoft is really into its Clancy franchises right now, isn’t it? Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad is a new mobile role-playing game that allows you to collect and upgrade heroes from several of the Clancy-verse’s biggest titles. Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell — well, he was at the conference — Nomad and Walker from Ghost Recon and characters from The Division and Rainbow Six are all included. Battles take place in five-on-five matches, and the game includes both a campaign mode as well as competitive multiplayer.

Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad will be available on iOS and Android devices. If you pre-register now, you can unlock Ghost Recon Breakpoint’s Walker upon release.

Roller Champions

Roller Champions: E3 2019 Official World Premiere Trailer | Ubisoft [NA]

Another game that leaked just ahead of E3, Roller Champions is a new roller-derby-type game with a futuristic twist. Zipping around on roller skates in an enormous ring, players must throw a ball into a goal that will regularly shift locations. It’s a skill-based game that Ubisoft designed to be fun to both watch and play, and its cartoony visual style reminded us of Pixar or Dreamworks, despite your ability to absolutely deck other players.

A special E3 demo is available to download on PC from June 10 through June 14. No firm release date for Roller Champions has been revealed yet, but it will be free to play when it launches next year.

Gods & Monsters

Gods & Monsters: E3 2019 Official World Premiere Cinematic Trailer | Ubisoft [NA]

Despite the scary name, Gods & Monsters is one of the lightest games Ubisoft had on display during its E3 2019 press conference. Set in a world of ancient Greek gods and their “misadventures,” you play as a hero who serves them when they “need help.” You must save them by fighting against mythological creatures and tackling the dungeons and trials any hero can expect to conquer. The game’s watercolor aesthetic is undeniably gorgeous, and it looks like it will be appropriate for a wider range of ages than Ubisoft’s other titles. Gods & Monsters will be available on February 25, 2020.

Uplay Plus

E3 2019: Uplay+ Subscription Announcement | Trailer | Ubisoft [NA]

Ubisoft is following in Electronic Arts’ footsteps with its own subscription service, which gives members access to a library of PC games. Called Uplay Plus, the service gives members early access to the premium editions of new Ubisoft games, as well as access to the more than 100 PC games available in the company’s back catalog. During the presentation, we saw older games like Beyond Good & Evil and the original Splinter Cell, so you will have plenty of games to keep you busy in between new releases.

Uplay Plus will cost $15 per month and is scheduled to launch this September, but you can sign up to receive free access at launch. The service will also be compatible with Google Stadia, effectively allowing you to enjoy Ubisoft’s games on everything from a laptop to a mobile phone.

After being canceled both physically and digitally in 2022, E3 seemed all but finished. Several months after this year's cancellation was announced, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) stated that the event is far from dead, with plans to return with a physical show in the works for 2023. Now, we have confirmation on just how it plans to get back on its feet after the ESA announced a partnership with ReedPop, the company behind the PAX conventions.

Specifically, Sony says in a PlayStation Blog post that its fans should expect "exciting reveals from our third-party partners, plus a sneak peek at several games in development for PlayStation VR2." It doesn't look like God of War: Ragnarok will show up here, but it will certainly be a welcome surprise if it does.
June 6: LRG3 Showcase
Physical game distributor Limited Run Games and Mega64 announced that they would hold the third annual LRG Showcase at 1 p.m. PT on June 6, 2022 on Twitch. The LRG3 Showcase will feature 30 games overall, mainly highlighting titles that Limited Run Games plans to give a physical release to over the next year.

June 10: Tribeca Games Spotlight
As part of Summer Game Fest, Tribeca will highlight its 2022 game selections during a livestream at 12 p.m. PT on June 10. We know that Tribeca's game selections this year are A Plague Tale: Requiem, American Arcadia, As Dusk Falls, Cuphead - The Delicious Last Course, Immortality, Oxenfree II: Lost Signals, The Cub, Thirsty Suitors, and Venba, so this livestream won't have much in the way of surprises. Still, it will provide updates on some of the industry's best-looking indie games.
June 11: Future of Play Direct

June 11: Future Games Show
Future Games Show 2022
GamesRadar is holding yet another gaming showcase at 12 p.m. PT on June 11. Future Games Show livestreams often focus on highlighting cool indie and AA games, so don't expect the next major AAA bombshell to be here. But we can expect reveals from companies like Amanita Design, Team17, and Thunderful. Overall, GamesRadar claims that 40 games will be shown during June's Future Games Show.
June 11 and 13: Guerrilla Collective 3
The Guerilla Collective is an indie showcase that takes place over the course of two separate days. The first presentation takes place at 8 a.m. PT on June 11 while the second one follows it up at 1 p.m. PT on June 13. You can see lists of many of the indie games participating in both the June 11 and June 13 events on the Guerrilla Collective's website.
June 12: Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase

The Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase (no Activision just yet) returns at 10 a.m. PT on June 12. Even though Redfall and Starfield were both recently delayed to 2023, this is still probably going to contain our best looks at these games yet! On top of that, there are plenty of other upcoming Xbox exclusives that Microsoft could show like Avowed, Fable, the new Forza Motorsport, Contraband, and Perfect Dark. Ultimately, Microsoft has a lot to prove with this year's showcase as it needs to demonstrate why 2022 will still be a compelling year for Xbox consoles and Game Pass without Redfall and Starfield. Check out everything that was announced.
June 12: PC Gaming Show
Just a couple of hours after Xbox and Bethesda's showcase, you can expect PC Gamer to hold an announcement-filled livestream of its own. The PC Gaming Show starts at 12:30 p.m. on June 12 and will contain over 45 upcoming PC games. Titles teased by PC Gamer so far include Arma 4, a Half-Life: Alyx mod called Levitation, Immortality, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, Victoria 3, and unannounced games from Klei Entertainment and 11 Bit Studios. If you're a fan of PC Gaming, this is definitely a show you'll want to tune into.

E3 isn’t dead just yet as ESA plans physical show for 2023
E3 logo

Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest, as well as other digital gaming showcase livestreams coming this summer, have proven that the gaming industry doesn't need E3, which was canceled this year for the second time in two years to reduce health risks associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) is telling everyone not to count it out just yet. Gaming's governing body has announced that E3 will be returning in 2023.

ESA President and CEO Stan Pierre-Louis said in an interview with The Washington Post that E3 2023 will combine both in-person and digital elements. He attributed the success of last year's virtual E3 to the expanse of its reach to fans and journalists around the world who couldn't afford to fly to Los Angeles for the convention or couldn't attend it for other reasons. He added that people still want to connect and network with each other in person.
