Electronic Arts is expanding its Skate video game franchise to the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS handheld with Skate It, a new game which offers players the experience of riding a skateboard through the best sports in San Vaneloma—and pulling the slickest moves with the game’s signature FlickIt controls. Skate It will also include support for the Wii Balance Board—which ships as part of Wii Fit— enabling players to put their feet in the game.
“We knew it would be an exciting challenge to bring the soul and feel of skateboarding to the Wii and Nintendo DS,” said Skate executive producer Scott Blackwood, in a statement. “With fresh new designs and game play components built from scratch, we’ve been able to, once again, capture the true experience of skateboarding in a completely innovative way.”
In the game, players will be able to use the Nintendo DS’s stylus or the Nintendo Wii remote to string together their moves and tricks in order to produce winning skate lines. The Wii Remote will act like a skateboard and respond to gestures that mimic signature moves, flips, and turns.
EA says Skate It will ship in 2008, but didn’t release any pricing or anticipated ratings. The company also announced it is working on Skate 2 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
