Sure it is a gimmick, but it is an eerily accurate gimmick at that. After correctly picking the winners of the Super Bowl, the Stanley Cup, and even the World Cup using the respective EA games for each sport, EA has fired up its newest college football game and played out the season for ESPN. NCAA 11, which was released on July 13, has predicted that Alabama will repeat as national champions, beating Ohio State 36-24 in the BCS Championship. The game also predicted the winners of each conference.
The game does have at least one notable flaw in its predicting ability that Kotaku first caught. With the game on shelves this week, there would not have been enough time to rework the software and include USC’s current post-season ban. There could be a software patch that might introduce that, but it seems unlikely. Likewise, the game does not recognize the addition of Colorado and Utah to the Pac-10 when you play through a season and begin another in dynasty mode. Same for Nebraska moving to the Big 10. Minor quibble, overall.
