EA’s Skate Gets Its Dates

EA

Electronic Arts has announced its new boarding-themed video game Skate will go on sale for the Xbox 360 on September 12 in the United States and September 14 in Europe—but players who just have to get a taste now will be able to grab a Skate demo from Xbox Live Marketplace starting August 15. PlayStation 3 owners will be able to get their hands on the game starting September 24 in the U.S. and on October 5 in Europe.

EA introduced the new skateboarding title at this year’s E3 conference; in the game, players take on the role of competitive skateboarders working to get coverage in Thrasher and The Skateboard Mag. When players get enough coverage, they get sponsors, products, money, and recognition; eventually, they’ll be invited to the skateboarding competition in the world-famous X Games.

Skate will offer a new “FlickIt” control system which leverages the dual analog sticks on game controls to give players the ability to create their own tricks and skate styles. The game will also feature a skate.reel feature enabling players to capture video of their mad skillz and share the footage with other gamers online.

Skate is rated T for “Teen” by the ESRB; it will carry a suggested U.S. price of $59.95 for the Xbox 360 and a barely-distinguishable $59.99 for the PlayStation 3.

Fable: release date window, trailers, gameplay, and more
One hero passing a sword to the other in Fable.

Fable fans have waited since 2010 for a true Albion adventure, and it looks like they'll have to keep waiting a bit longer. The next installment in the franchise, just titled Fable instead of Fable 4, is in production but from a studio known only for its racing games rather than fantasy RPGs. The story is beginning to become a bit more clear now, however, so here's everything we know about Fable.
Release date window

Fable only has a release window for 2025 at the moment. It's hard to tell when we'll get it that year, but we do feel confident it won't be delayed another year.

Limited Run Games ran its annual showcase on Thursday, adding to its catalog of physical retro game releases for the next year. While many of the trailers were for already-announced titles, LRG managed to sneak in some big announcements, including the Beyond Good and Evil 20th Anniversary Edition, re-releases and remasters of some deep-cut retro games, and more.

The physical game publisher has also gotten into the world of broader video game publishing, with its Carbon Engine helping developers use emulation to port older games from in the pre-PlayStation 1 era over to modern platforms. It's also already released some projects this year, with Rocket Knight Adventures: Re-Sparked with Konami and being behind the Alan Wake 2 Collector's Edition.
