Twitch streamer’s ‘ultimate’ Elden Ring run involves two copies and a dance pad

Twitch streamer MissMikka has begun the “Ultimate Challenge Run” of Elden Ring, in which she attempts to play two versions of the game simultaneously — one using a PlayStation 5 5 controller and the other with a dance pad.

Game of the Year winner Elden Ring is already considered a difficult game, yet some players have imposed even greater restrictions on themselves to make it even more grueling. These challenge runs have come in many forms, such as beating the game without leveling up, completing it without being hit, and using unorthodox control inputs.

MissMikka has already completed major Elden Ring challenge runs in the past, most notably defeating one of the most difficult bosses in the game, Malenia, at level 1 using only a dance pad. That challenge took more than 15 hours of attempts and over 550 deaths to complete, but now the player is undertaking a challenge even more ambitious.

Beginning on December 10, MissMikka has started what she calls the “Ultimate Challenge Run” of Elden Ring by attempting to beat two copies of the game simultaneously, controlling one version of the game with a PS5 controller and the other with a dance pad. Another self-imposed limitation is that she must also beat every boss on the same attempt in both versions, preventing her from focusing on just one version at a time.

So far her strategy involves keeping both characters using the same equipment, weapons, and stats, but this is certainly a task few have the mental fortitude to complete.

You can follow her progress on her Twitch channel where she last left off attempting to beat Margit, the Fell Omen.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree finally arrives this June
A furnace golem looms in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.

We finally got our first full look at Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, the expansion for FromSoftware's critically acclaimed 2022 open-world game. Thankfully, we don't have to wait too much longer for it, as publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment confirmed a June 21 release date.

The Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree trailer is full of gameplay, showing the new area that players can explore, many different bosses and combat encounters, and some awesome new weapons. Standouts include a boss that's a giant burning wicker man, a large hippo-like creature that can grow sparks out of its body, and a powerful-looking flaming crossbow weapon. The trailer also shows the player dying many times, so it looks like Shadow of the Erdtree will feature a lot more of the satisfying, yet difficult gameplay loop that the original offered.

Armored Core VI lives up to post-Elden Ring FromSoftware expectations
A boss fight in Armored Core 6.

I don’t envy the position FromSoftware is in with Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. It’s the first title since the release of Elden Ring, a monumental, critically acclaimed title considered one of the studio’s best. It’s also reviving a series that hasn’t been seen in a decade for modern platforms and game audiences. On top of those things, because this isn’t a Souls game, a microscope will be on the title as FromSoftware fans scrutinize if it’s as good as other games, while Souls haters will wonder if this is finally a good FromSoftware jumping on point for them.

Elden Ring 2 deserves the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom treatment
A warrior fights in Elden Ring.

By all accounts, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a fantastic sequel. Digital Trends’ review highlights how adding sky islands, a massive cavern below Hyrule, and creation abilities give players tools to create their own puzzle solutions and blow the game open. It doubles down on all of Breath of the Wild’s strengths but builds upon them in innovative ways that make this sequel feel truly different from its predecessor. If, or when, Elden Ring gets a follow-up, I hope its sequel does the same.

While not officially announced, FromSoftware owner Kadokawa Group has outright stated that it is “pursuing the maximization of profit by prolonging the life of IP." That makes a sequel to Elden Ring feel inevitable. The upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree expansion will likely introduce some ideas of its own, but a sequel is where FromSoftware has an opportunity to change things up.
