Evil Dead: The Game trailer gives a closer look at its gory gameplay

Saber Interactive showed off new gameplay from Evil Dead: The Game at the Summer Game Fest event on Thursday. Evil Dead: The Game will allow players to play as one of several characters from the franchise as they fend off waves of deadites and attempt to save the world. The game allows players to choose whether to be righteous or evil as they search for artifacts, pages of the Necronomicon, and other series tidbits.

Evil Dead: The Game was originally announced at The Game Awards in December 2020, accompanied by a cinematic trailer that showed little in the way of gameplay. The new trailer at Summer Game Fest detailed the game’s mechanics a little more, showing players how they’ll be able to interact with the movie’s iconic locations and items. The trailer was narrated by Bruce Campbell, who starred as Ash Williams in the series.

Evil Dead: The Game is a co-op and PvP multiplayer action game that allows players to set their own moral compass based on the character they play. Players will work in a team of four to save the world from the deadites by playing as one of the movie’s heroes. They can also play as the Kandarian Demon itself, which uses the power of possession to inhabit other demons and take out the good guys.

Along the way, players can find audio tapes and other items that provide background lore and help them on their quest. More than 25 different weapons, including guns, sledgehammers, shovels, and more, can be used to perform gruesome, over-the-top finishing moves.

Evil Dead: The Game will release in 2021 for PlayStation 4/PS5, PC, Xbox One/Series S/X, and Nintendo Switch.

Here’s what E3 2023 could look like without Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft

Let's start with the good news: E3 2023 will be held in its in-person format once again after three long years of digital events necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic, this time with ReedPop at the helm. The bad news is that Sony, Xbox, and Nintendo -- gaming's "Big 3" -- may not show up at the industry’s biggest convention this summer.

This is according to a report from IGN citing multiple sources, who claimed the companies won’t be a part of the show or make appearances on the floor at the Los Angeles Convention Center in any way. Their absence from this year’s E3, especially Nintendo’s, may come as a shock to the gaming community, but it's not such a surprise when looking at the past few iterations of E3. Even before the pandemic locked everyone down in 2020, Sony and Xbox had been hosting their own E3-style livestreams, so it was more likely they would do it again this year anyway. Nintendo, on the other hand, managed to show off its upcoming games via Nintendo Direct streams and at its booth, console kiosks and all.

PS Plus adds Evil Dead, OlliOlli World, and more in February

PlayStation Plus Essential's February game lineup was announced today, and it consists of four titles: OlliOlli World, Evil Dead: The Game, Mafia: Definitive Edition, and Destiny 2: Beyond Light. These games will be available to download starting February 7. Overall, this is a really solid batch of games.

OlliOlli World was one of my personal favorite games of 2022 because of its amazing level design and 2D skateboarding gameplay that only becomes more fun as you get better with the game. "Like the best games of the genre, it knows that easy-to-learn-but-hard-to-master mechanics, rewarding obstacles, and high speeds that test one’s reaction time are the hallmarks of a great platformer," I wrote in a four-and-a-half star review of the game last February.
