Is Exoprimal cross-platform?

Capcom’s latest release is all about you and four friends teaming up to mow down endless waves of dinosaurs while wearing powerful Exosuits. Being a multiplayer-only title, with no dedicated single-player mode to speak of, you’re going to be encouraged to party up with your friends rather than depend on the matchmaking systems most of the time. Recent years have seen a major push for multiplayer-focused games that release on all consoles, such as Exoprimal, to have full cross-platform support. However, does Exoprimal follow suit? Here’s the complicated answer to whether or not Exoprimal is cross-platform.

Is Exoprimal cross-platform?

On day 1, Exoprimal will support cross-platform matchmaking, but party creation will be specific to each platform ecosystem, as seen below in no particular order:
Group 1: Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Windows
Group 2: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5
Group 3: Steam

The short answer is sort of. The answer depends on how you’re playing the game.

If you are playing using the matchmaking system, where you are randomly matched with other players, then Exoprimal allows for players on all platforms (PlayStation, Xbox, and PC) to match together.

If you want to create a party with your friends, as most players will, then the answer will be slightly disappointing. As stated by the Exoprimal official Twitter account, on launch, the game will only allow specific platform groups to be made. These groups are:

Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows
PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5
Steam

If you have friends on any platform not in your group, you will not be able to form a group with them. Capcom is working on a way to allow players to create groups with their friends across all platforms, but as of the time of this writing, there is no estimated date for when that will be implemented. This is a surprising limitation, not only because of the industry trend toward multiplayer games allowing for cross-platform play, but also because you are required to create a Capcom ID to play Exoprimal.

For now, you are limited to either praying you find your friends on other platforms through matchmaking or only grouping up with friends that happen to be in the same group as you.

Unfortunately, there aren't any rules when it comes to crossplay, so each game handles the feature a little differently. To make matters more confusing, certain backward-compatible games on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X still support crossplay on the most recent hardware, even if there isn't an official release for that hardware.

When it launched in 2022, Elden Ring was an immediate hit. The challenging game took everything great from previous FromSoftware titles and merged it with a sweeping open world to explore -- letting players venture in any direction just a few minutes after starting the game. That also made it incredibly daunting. Not only did you have to contend with nightmarish monsters and rage-inducing combat, but you had to figure out how to best reach your next destination without stumbling upon enemies that were twice your skill level.

Thankfully, Elden Ring makes use of a (cryptic) multiplayer system, allowing you to explore the Lands Between with a buddy by your side. You can also read and leave messages for other players, giving them tips and tricks to guide their journey. Is Manor Lords cross-platform?

Building and managing your own medieval utopia is a lonely job. Sure, you have a population of citizens to grow and order around, but they can't compare with another actual human player. At least at launch, Manor Lords is a PC exclusive, and it's also going to be coming to Xbox consoles as well so even more people can get in on the city-building fun. We can expect basically any modern game to allow for cross-platform play, but what if Manor Lords is stuck in the Middle Ages? Is Manor Lords cross-platform?
Without beating around the bush, no, Manor Lords has no cross-platform support. Even when the game is available on Steam, PC Game Pass, and Xbox consoles, there will be no way to play with others on different platforms. In fact, you can't play with people on the same platform, either. Manor Lords has no multiplayer component whatsoever -- either co-op or competitive -- so there's no reason for this feature to be included.

Sadly, you shouldn't expect any multiplayer to come to the game later. A developer released an FAQ prior to the game's launch and responded to a question regarding multiplayer, stating: "The focus is on a refined single-player experience, with no multiplayer or cooperative modes planned at the moment."
