Aspyr Media has announced it will be shipping a version of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock for both the Macintosh and PC within a few weeks’ of the title’s game console versions. According to Aspyr, the Mac and PC version will match their console-based counterparts, offering all the content, features, boss challenges, unlockable content, and (of course) the same 70-song soundtrack. Online play will also enable Mac and PC gamers a chance to compete with other players around the world, regardless of whether they’re using a Mac, PC, or game console.
"Working with such a wildly successful franchise and helping to strengthen an already powerful brand has us feeling like rock stars ourselves, only without the fame, money or musical talent," said Ted Staloch, Aspyr’s executive VP of Publishing. "Aspyr’s expertise in developing and publishing for these platforms means that we will deliver a game that wails just as hard as it does on consoles but feels natural on this audience’s chosen platform."
The Mac and PC version of Guitar Hero III will be fully playable with the keyboard or keyboard and mouse—handy if you plan on rocking out with your notebook at a public Wi-Fi hotspot, for example. However, the game will ship in a hybrid box containing both the Mac and PC versions, with a USB guitar-shaped controller for those who prefer rocking out with at least a fake guitar. System requirements and pricing have not yet been announced (we’re thinking it might only support Intel-based Macs). Guitar Hero III has been rated T for "Teen" by the ESRB.
