As revealed during The Game Awards 2020, Halo’s Master Chief has come to Fortnite, and you can unlock the character now. Master Chief joins Kratos as a console-exclusive mascot, though you can get his outfit and items across any platform. It’s absolutely wild to play as the iconic Xbox character on a PlayStation or Nintendo Switch.
Unlocking the character’s outfit works the same way as it did with Kratos, though if you’re new to Fortnite or haven’t played in a while, you might be unsure of how to get it. In this quick guide, we’ll walk you through how to unlock Master Chief and all of his items in Fortnite.

How to get the Master Chief skin
To unlock Master Chief’s skin and items, you must purchase them with V-bucks, the in-game currency. Right when you start the game on December 11, 2020, you’ll likely see advertisements for the character all over the place. As you can see in the image above, a timer is counting down, indicating the character’s availability. That means you only have today to get your hands on the Chief’s skin and items, so you’ll have to act fast.
Here, we’ll list all of the bundles you can purchase, along with their V-buck prices. Keep in mind, you can either earn V-bucks in-game by leveling up your battle pass, or by purchasing them with real money. A thousand V-bucks is equal to around $8 or so.
Master Chief Bundle — 2,600 V-bucks
- Master Chief – Outfit
- Battle Legend — Back Bling
- Gravity Hammer – Harvesting Tool
- UNSC Pelican — Glider
- Lil’ Warthog — Emote
This bundle has everything Master Chief-related, from the outfit to an emote and glider. If you buy everything as a bundle, you do save a bit of money instead of buying the items individually. If you don’t have V-bucks left over, you’ll have to spend around $20 to get this bundle.
Master Chief — 1,500 V-bucks
- Master Chief – Outfit
- Battle Legend — Back Bling
This is the least expensive option for getting the Master Chief outfit. It comes with that and the Battle Legend Back Bling piece.
Gravity Hammer — 800 V-bucks
- Gravity Hammer – Harvesting Tool
UNSC Pelican — 1,200 V-bucks
- UNSC Pelican — Glider
Lil’ Warthog — 500 V-bucks
- Lil’ Warthog — Emote
And those are all the options you have for buying Master Chief’s Outfit and gear in Fortnite. Unfortunately, it seems that if you miss buying the character on December 11, you might not have any other opportunities to acquire him later on. In the past, licensed characters have been limited to one day of availability. Now that iconic PlayStation and Xbox mascots have been added to Fortnite, many suspect we’ll get a Nintendo character next week — perhaps Mario or Link from Zelda.
