Is Skull and Bones crossplay?

What is a pirate without their crew? Skull and Bones aims to let you live out all your pirate fantasies, including captaining your own ship, digging up treasure, and engaging in naval battles. While all that is fun on its own, this is an online experience, and filling your crew with friends can make your adventures all the more enjoyable.

However, this title is setting sail on all platforms, so what if your ideal crew is spread across different consoles? Will you be able to raise a flag together or be forced to sail alone? Here’s everything you need to know about crossplay in Skull and Bones.

Does Skull and Bones have crossplay?

Ubisoft

Yes, Skull and Bones has full crossplay support on all systems. Once you boot up the game, head into Settings > Accessibility and toggle Crossplay to on. Once enabled, you can invite friends on any console to join your crew. Just know that you can only make parties of up to three people, including yourself, despite servers hosting 20 total players.

In addition to crossplay, Skull, and Bones also has full cross-progression as well. By using the same Ubisoft account, you can take all your progress from any console to another or a PC and vice versa without losing any of your hard-earned loot.

As for which platforms you can play on, Skull and Bones will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Amazon Luna. Whichever platform you choose to play on, you’ll be able to squad up with your friends with no problems.

Skull and Bones launches this fall, four years after its original release window
A pirate in Skull & Bones

Ubisoft's long-delayed pirate game Skull and Bones will actually launch this year. In a gameplay showcase that gave us our first look at Skull and Bones in several years, Ubisoft confirmed that it would launch on November 8.
Skull and Bones | Gameplay Overview Trailer
The final version of Skull and Bones is a mix of Ubisoft's open-world titles, survival games, and a more detailed version of the Assassin's Creed series' naval combat. Players start with just a small ship and a spear ,but will be tasked with building up their Infamy (the main form of progression) by completing quests and taking down enemy ships on the open sea. They'll also become more powerful by finding blueprints and getting the materials to craft new ships, weapons, and armor.
Ubisoft is also emphasizing multiplayer, and players will be able to work with their friends to complete quests and even fight other players if they opt into the correct servers. Ultimately, Skull and Bones is shaping up to be an alternative to Sea of Thieves that's a bit more focused on intense naval combat. It just took Ubisoft a long time to reach that point.
Skull and Bones: Ship Combat, Customization, and Progression Gameplay
Skull and Bones has been in development since 2013, and it was first revealed at E3 2017. Back then, it was a more segmented experience with dedicated single-player and PvP modes. Skull and Bones was initially set to launch in late 2018 but was delayed again and again to the point that it was doubtful that the game would ever be released. A Kotaku report about Skull and Bones' development claims that mismanagement and a lack of a consistent vision for the game were to blame for these problems. Ubisoft refocused the project in late 2020, and it appears to be a survival-driven experience.
Ubisoft will release Skull and Bones for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Google Stadia, and Amazon Luna on November 8.

Ubisoft to raise awareness for climate change by burning in-game maps
ubisoft climate change awareness events riders republic wildfire event

As part of the United Nations' Playing for the Planet initiative, Ubisoft has announced it will host in-game events in Riders Republic and Skull and Bones to raise awareness for climate change.

In Riders Republic, it will teach players the consequences of wildfires by setting the outskirts of the game map on fire. Ubisoft won't announce when exactly that will happen. Instead, when booting the game, players will be greeted by an orange sky, their avatar equipped with a gas mask by default, and parts of the map being closed off due to nearby wildfires rendering them unbreathable. In other words, they'll be immediately immersed in a wildfire in order for Ubisoft to point out how quickly wildfires ignite and spread without warning.
