‘The Jackbox Party Pack 4’ will bring the return of fan favorite ‘Fibbage’

Very few developers can put a smile on players’ faces as quickly as Jackbox Games, and its most recent Jackbox Party Pack series includes some of the funniest and most engaging party games we’ve ever played. The fourth installment, Jackbox Party Pack 4, is coming later this year, and it sees the return of a fan-favorite game that was curiously absent from the previous bundle.

“When we decided to make a new [Party Pack] this year, we rolled our 20-sided die, as usual,” said director Ryan DiGiorgi. “It landed on 2, but we did that one already. So, after nine more rerolls, we are excited to announce The Jackbox Party Pack 4, coming to major digital marketplaces this fall!”

The full lineup of games included in The Jackbox Party Pack 4 hasn’t been revealed yet, but DiGiorgi did reveal that it will include Fibbage 3. The trivia game tasks each player with coming up with a believable lie to each question while also attempting to spot the correct answer. Though not as laugh-out-loud funny as some games, it’s still one of the better one Jackbox has made in recent years. Fibbage 3 will also let audience members vote on their own lies to be included in the game as potential “answers,” though we’re not sure this will be an acceptable choice.

While The Jackbox Party Pack 4 is still several months away, Nintendo Switch owners now have the chance to play The Jackbox Party Pack 3. The game includes Quiplash 2, a game that has each player picking the funniest, rather than the most believable, answer to each prompt. The games allow users to type using their smartphones, which makes them remarkably easy to set up, even with a room full of new players, and the Switch’s portability makes it easy to play anywhere.

The Jackbox Party Pack 3 is out now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Mac, Amazon Fire, and Switch.

October 14 saw the release of The Jackbox Party Pack 8, the latest in the long-running party game franchise. Jackbox is best described as a more adult Mario Party. The compilations contain trivia and word-based games that are designed for several players who write, draw, or make guesses based on other players' entries and the game's ridiculous situations. The series is unique in that players don't need to use controllers to participate:W hile Jackbox's main action takes place on the big screen, players send in their decisions and answers through their phones. Observers who aren't actively participating can join the "audience" and influence the outcome of the games.

Jackbox was one of the game series that got my friends and I through the pandemic. While it doesn't have true online play or any sort of matchmaking, we got around that by having one person stream the main game through Discord and partying up in voice chat. I spent my birthday last year quarantined in my bedroom, drinking beer, and playing The Jackbox Party Pack 7 virtually with a big group of friends, and it brought a lot of levity to what was otherwise a rough situation. When Party Pack 8 released last week, it was an instant buy for me. After playing through each of its party games with different friends, here's how each new game stacks up in terms of fun factor.

Developer Digital Eclipse is working on a surprising project: Volgarr the Viking 2. The 2D retro sequel will launch on August 6 for PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

The news is an out of left field reveal. The first Volgarr the Viking game released in 2013 and was made as an ode to 1080s classics like Ghosts 'n Goblins. Despite being a small release, it sold over 1 million copies over the past decade. As revealed during today's Guerrilla Collective stream, the series is coming back with a new sequel by Digital Eclipse, the team behind this year's Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story.

June 2024 is shaping up to be a pretty great month for PlayStation players. Not only are we coming off an entertaining State of Play showcase, but a new Days of Play initiative surrounding all the video game showcases this month is bringing a lot of new PS Plus additions with it. Finally, the last title is an atmospheric and eerie fishing game that should entice fans of Lovecraftian horror.
