Friday the 13th‘s murderous Jason Voorhees has been confirmed as a playable fighter in Mortal Kombat X‘s Kombat Pack. The revelation came in a brief trailer, appropriately released on Friday, March 13.
The Pack also includes two as-yet-unnamed “Klassic Mortal Kombat Kombatants” and one more guest fighter, all of whom are still in development. The Kombat Pack is included among the goodies with all special editions. It can also be purchased separately for $30.
People who purchase the Kombat Pack also gain access to the Samurai Pack, which includes three new character skins: Ronin Kenshi, Samurai Shinnok, and Jingu Kitana, along with an accompanying skin pack for every playable character. The Samurai Pack will be available for separate purchase at a later date.
Mortal Kombat X marks the series’ debut on Microsoft and Sony’s latest consoles, with the beefed up hardware allowing for more brutally specific fatalities than ever before. Series creator Ed Boon remains at the helm, now under the aegis of NetherRealm Studios. It arrives on PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One on April 14, 2015. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, being developed by High Voltage Software, will follow in the summer.
Jason is having an excellent year for video game appearances. A new Friday the 13th game centered around asymmetric Jason-vs-campers gameplay is currently in development. Frequent Jason actor Kane Hodder will also be playing a psychopathic killer in a suspiciously similar-sounding serial killer vs teens at summer camp game, Slasher vol. 1: Summer Camp.
