Kingdom Hearts 2.8 three-game compilation coming to PS4 in 2016

Kingdom Hearts 2.8 - PS4 Trailer - TGS 2015 [ HD ]
During its keynote presentation at Tokyo Game Show in Japan this week, Square Enix announced that multiple chapters in its Disney-licensed RPG series Kingdom Hearts will hit the PlayStation 4 in the upcoming compilation Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue.

Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue includes an HD remake of the Nintendo 3DS series entry Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, along with bonus storyline content and an all-new playable chapter that leads up to the events featured in the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 3.

Released in 2012, Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance was one of several series entries to hit Nintendo’s portable platforms, following up on the Game Boy Advance story expansion Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories and the Nintendo DS sequels Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days and Kingdom Hearts Re:coded.

Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD will feature updated HD visuals and redesigned controls suited for the DualShock 4. Additional details regarding the port are not yet known.

Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue will also include the nonplayable story chapter Kingdom Hearts X Back Cover, filling in notable gaps in series continuity. Focusing on previously unseen moments in series history that unfolded before the original Kingdom Hearts, Back Cover will serve as an introduction to the upcoming mobile spinoff Kingdom Hearts Unchained X.

The bundle’s final component is Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth By Sleep — A Fragmentary Passage, which Square Enix describes as a “completely new playable episode” that links current series canon with Kingdom Hearts 3. Putting players in control of returning character Aqua, Kingdom Hearts 0.2 expands on storyline elements originally introduced in the 2010 PSP series entry Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep.

Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue will launch exclusively for the PlayStation 4 in Japan in 2016. A North American release date was not announced.

In Kingdom Hearts 4, our Keyblade hero Sora has a brand new look that finally makes him resemble a realistic-looking Final Fantasy character and a swanky new apartment to go with it. It's an impressive feat for a 15-year-old, assuming he didn't time skip a few years after leaving Donald Duck, Goofy, and all of his friends at the end of Kingdom Hearts 3. According to series creator Tetsuya Nomura, however, Sora's new makeover and pad may not last as long as we thought it would.

In a recent interview with Famitsu (with translation courtesy of VGC), Nomura divulged some new details about Kingdom Hearts 4, which he suddenly announced at the Kingdom Hearts 20th Anniversary event in Tokyo last Sunday -- and on Palm Sunday, no less. He shares the new world that Sora will be roaming around in for most of the game and demystified any misconceptions fans may have about the world of Quadratum. Here are some important revelations from the interview.
