Konami Brings Metal Gear, Castlevania News

Following major press conferences from the “big three” at this year’s E3, smaller Japanese developer Konami stepped up to the plate on Wednesday to share tidbits about its own upcoming titles [PDF]. News from the company included some of its most popular franchises, including Metal Gear, Castlevania, and Silent Hill.

Metal Gear fans won’t have to wait long for their taste of fresh content: marketing vice president Anthony Krause announced first thing that an expansion pack for Metal Gear Online was due to be released Thursday. Konami will also put on tournaments for the game at this year’s Comic-Con and Tokyo Game Show.

The company also showed off Castlevania Judgement, an upcoming Nintendo Wii title that ditches the genre’s typical adventure game play in favor of one-on-one fighting with distinct Castlevania style. Another Castlevania title for the Nintendo DS, Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, sticks more to the brand’s roots with side 2D sidescrolling game play.

Silent Hill: Homecoming likewise sticks to the same style as its predecessors with creepy 3D horror game with a new plot that centers around a protagonist searching for his missing brother.

The conference closed with a Rock Revolution demo, a music game that mimics the likes of Guitar Hero and Rock Band by having players keep up with on-screen music with specialized controllers.

All of the aforementioned games will debut in the fall, although specific dates were not announced.

Ubisoft confirms Assassin’s Creed remakes are in the works

In a company interview with CEO Yves Guillemot posted on the Ubisoft website Thursday, the executive reveals that there are remakes of Assassin's Creed games in the works, although he doesn't specify which ones.

"Players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we've created in the past and modernize them," he says, implying that it could pertain to games made before Odyssey. "There are worlds in some of our older Assassin's Creed games that are still extremely rich."

Surfaced patent shows what an Xbox streaming console would’ve looked like

There have been a few Xbox devices that have never come to fruition, one of which was Keystone, a prototype for an affordable game streaming device you could hook up to your TV or monitor. Thanks to a surfaced patent, we've gotten an even closer look at what it would've potentially looked like.

The patent, first spotted by Windows Central, gives us a more complete view of the device. We've previously seen the Keystone in the flesh. Microsoft Gaming head Phil Spencer is known for hiding teases and interesting collectibles on the shelf in his office. In a 2022 X (formerly Twitter) post congratulating Bethesda on Fallout's 25th anniversary, you can see a small white device on the top shelf that's actually a Keystone prototype. Xbox told Digital Trends that it was a version of the device made before it decided to "refocus our efforts on a new approach.”
