Metal Gear Solid 4 gets Trophy support ahead of Metal Gear 25th Anniversary celebration in August

The game console doomsaying going around the web these days; the Wii U’s impending release; the constant stream of tech demos for “next-generation” engines; the leaks about Sony and Microsoft’s PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720—It all means one thing: The reign of the first HD console generation is over. There may be another year of PlayStation 3 games on the horizon, maybe even more, but you can hear those gears slowing down. Technology is marching forward.

As tends to happen at the edge of things, this means some weirdness is on the horizon! Both strange late-generation games and other odd releases. Case in point: Konami and Kojima Productions are updating Metal Gear Solid 4.

Yes, according to Famitsu (via Andriasang), the four-year-old stealth game about an old man getting in fistfights is getting PlayStation 3 Trophy support later this year. A budget version of the game will be out in August in Japan with the Trophy support built in.

The report also said that Kojima productions will hold a 25^th anniversary event for Metal Gear in Tokyo on Aug. 30. Will we finally get that Metal Gear Solid 5 announcement everyone’s been expecting this year? Will there be an Xbox 360 version of Metal Gear Solid 4 to cap off this HD generation? All we know for sure is that there will be very long cutscenes.

What has been on PlayStation Plus for a while is the last major RPG from Obsidian, The Outer Worlds. Often compared to a Fallout in space, this is a more contained RPG experience where you explore several hub locations rather than a single open world. The entire game is a parody on corporations, capitalism, and class that hits way more than it misses. You are given a ton of different build options, and the companions are some of the best we've had the pleasure to meet. This isn't a huge game, but we do need to give you fair warning that it is leaving the service this month so you will need to commit to it if you want to finish it all. Even if you don't, it is worth a purchase to be ready for The Outer Worlds 2.
