A cinematic trailer showed a masked female figure — “one of the last humans still alive” in the wake of an apocalyptic disaster — accompanied by a mechanical canine amidst a barren landscape. The titular blue, glowing core appeared to power the player character’s electronic companion — after enemy robots destroyed the dog, the character appeared to use it to power a previously dormant metallic humanoid.
If the pedigree is anything to go by, Recore’s most likely a third-person or first-person game in the action-platforming genre. And given the abundance of collectables in both the Megaman and Metroid Prime series, it’s not unreasonable to assume there’ll be a whole lot of orbs to find, stow, and probably use to unlock doors and power all sorts of useful tools and weapons.
Recore is part of Microsoft’s concerted effort to branch out from established franchises. The company announced Sea of Thieves, a new game from storied studio Rare, and highlighted the independent developers behind Xbox One console exclusive Cuphead. And Microsoft revealed Gigantic, a free-to-play MOBA launching in beta late this summer.
Details about Recore are proving weirdly elusive, but we’re expecting more in the coming days. Stay tuned.
