Kinect is Microsoft’s delayed reaction to the massive success of the Nintendo Wii. The Xbox 360 add-on allows people to play games with no controller at all, instead using a special camera to detect arm, body, and facial movements. We tried the device at the Electronics Entertainment Expo in June and walked away unimpressed. “The Kinect is not easy to use, it’s not accurate, and it’s not fun,” associate editor Nick Mokey wrote at the time.
Still, Microsoft is spending $500 million to ensure Kinect is a success, including a spot on Oprah later today. Kinect will retail for $149 alone or can be purchased with a Xbox 360 for $299.
What do you think of Kinect? Does it have a chance against Sony’s PlayStation Move and the Nintendo Wii? Are you planning to buy one on Nov. 4?
