Comcept’s Mega Man-inspired action game Mighty No. 9 is primed for a June release after weathering multiple delays in the months leading up to its worldwide launch. The company has announced that the long-in-development project has “gone gold,” revealing that Mighty No. 9 will hit retail and digital channels in North America and Asia on June 21. A worldwide launch will follow on June 24.

Developed in collaboration with Mega Man character artist and co-creator Keiji Inafune, Mighty No. 9 is a side-scrolling platformer that takes inspiration from classic 8-bit and 16-bit action games. In Mighty No. 9, players control Beck, a Mega Man-like robot who can acquire new weapons and abilities from the enemies he defeats during gameplay.

Mighty No. 9 earned nearly $4 million in backer pledges from a successful Kickstarter campaign that wrapped up in 2013. The game missed its projected 2015 release window, however, and last-minute setbacks delayed its worldwide launch past a previously announced February release date.

“The release date we are announcing is set in stone and there will be no further delays for the game,” Inafune assured fans as part of today’s announcement.

“It has been almost three years since the start of our Kickstarter campaign, which was only made possible through the support of our backers and fans around the world,” Inafune continued. “This is a project where everyone’s passions were combined in order to create something very special, and we are looking forward to delivering the final product to everyone who was involved. There can be no stronger connection between game creators and game fans.”

Mighty No. 9 will launch through retail channels and digitally for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U on June 21 alongside digital-exclusive releases for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC platforms. Ports for the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita are still in development, and will be released “at a later point,” according to Comcept.

Basim perched on a ledge overlooking Baghdad

In a company interview with CEO Yves Guillemot posted on the Ubisoft website Thursday, the executive reveals that there are remakes of Assassin's Creed games in the works, although he doesn't specify which ones.

"Players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we've created in the past and modernize them," he says, implying that it could pertain to games made before Odyssey. "There are worlds in some of our older Assassin's Creed games that are still extremely rich."

Surfaced patent shows what an Xbox streaming console would’ve looked like
An Xbox Series X sits next to both Series S models.

There have been a few Xbox devices that have never come to fruition, one of which was Keystone, a prototype for an affordable game streaming device you could hook up to your TV or monitor. Thanks to a surfaced patent, we've gotten an even closer look at what it would've potentially looked like.

The patent, first spotted by Windows Central, gives us a more complete view of the device. We've previously seen the Keystone in the flesh. Microsoft Gaming head Phil Spencer is known for hiding teases and interesting collectibles on the shelf in his office. In a 2022 X (formerly Twitter) post congratulating Bethesda on Fallout's 25th anniversary, you can see a small white device on the top shelf that's actually a Keystone prototype. Xbox told Digital Trends that it was a version of the device made before it decided to "refocus our efforts on a new approach.”
