The first episode in Telltale Games’ narrative-focused Minecraft spinoff, Minecraft: Story Mode will hit digital storefronts in October, the studio announced this week.
Minecraft: Story Mode will also launch as a retail package that bundles the entire upcoming series via an included Season Pass.
Based on the blocky world featured in Mojang’s hit sandbox construction title Minecraft, Telltale’s Minecraft: Story Mode puts players on a choice-driven journey that spans familiar in-game territory like the Nether, the Farlands, and the End. Choosing either a male or female avatar named Jesse (alternately voiced by comedian Patton Oswalt and veteran voice actress Ashley Johnson), players experience the world of Minecraft through fully voiced interactions with partner characters for the first time.
Other voice actors featured in Minecraft: Story Mode include Brian Posehn, Scott Porter, Martha Plimpton, Dave Fennoy, Corey Feldman, Billy West, and Paul Reubens.
The first of five Minecraft: Story Mode episodes will launch next month, and as with Telltale’s previous games like The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones, new chapters will premiere in the weeks afterward. The retail version of Minecraft: Story Mode will include the first episode on-disc, and players can redeem an included Season Pass to download subsequent episodes digitally as they’re released.
“We’ve worked closely with the amazing team at Mojang to ensure this story is a natural fit for the Minecraft world fans already know and love,” Telltale Games co-founder and CEO Kevin Bruner stated. “As Jesse, players will steer their own path through a tale of adventure and survival; all brought to life by an all-star cast. Through Telltale’s choice-based gameplay and a story spanning from the Nether to the Farlands, the End, and beyond, we can’t wait for fans to experience this new take on the beloved world of Minecraft.”
Minecraft: Story Mode will launch first via digital storefronts on October 13 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PS3, and PC platforms, along with iOS and Android devices. Season Pass-bundled retail editions for the PlayStation 4, PS3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 will premiere on October 27.
